Property Ratings at Hidden Valley Apartments
I lived here for 2 years, and at first it seemed like a great apartment for the price. The floor plans are very large, and the rent is very cheap. Everyone I met in management was really very nice. The neighborhood is terrible. There are always people screaming outside, and cars honking throughout the night. I called the maintenance person a few times about a specific outlet. He did respond very fast, but each time he was there he said the outlet was fine, and it worked. It worked sometimes, but then it would stop working for hours at a time at random intervals. I would explain this to him, and he said I must be using it wrong. (its an outlet, how do I use it wrong) If you have an emergency, the maintenance guy does respond right away, which is great, but if you have a problem with anything that isn't an emergency, good luck getting a response. I would call the office everyday for 2 weeks straight, and never get an answer. Never got a call back. I would leave messages, and they would not call back. Eventually I would get them on the line, and mention why I had been calling, and they responded that they knew what I was talking about. So they had listened to my phone calls, and decided to ignore me. The worst part is when I moved out. It took them 25 days to write the explanation of my refund for the security deposit, and another 6 days after that to mail it. (which is 10 days past the legal deadline to give me my deposit back). There are almost $600 worth of charges on there that should not be on there. Things that didn't even happen. (an example is that it says I took the patio door down, and that they needed to replace it. Which is absurd, I did not take the patio door off. I don't even know how to do that) The best part is that it isn't even filled out to me. it was mailed to my mailing address, but then the body of the letter starts out "Dear Joshua and Megan" which is not my name, nor is it the name of my roommates. I have called the office many times. After 2 weeks, they finally got back to me. They said something about talking to the landlord, and that they would call me back the next day. That was a month ago. I've called many times since. I've also called another person who helps manage, and I've had a hard time getting a hold of him too! This is an absolutely abysmal way to run an apartment complex. I have been actively trying to get a hold of ANYBODY who I can talk to about this, and so far it has been 7 weeks.
Hidden Valley is a great place to live. I spent about two years there before moving away from the Twin Cities, and would've stayed longer if given the chance. Management is incredibly friendly and willing to help you however they can. They really make you feel like a part of the family. The apartments are all very well taken care of, and yards and parking lots are maintained regularly all year round. In the winter they clear snow from the parking lot and the surrounding streets almost immediately when the city doesn't get to it right away, which is super helpful. Some general things I liked: -Convenient location (close to both downtowns and Rosedale mall. Easy interstate access) -Private! (Apartments are near a fairly heavily wooded park and a cemetery. It's pretty quiet for city-living) -Washers/Driers located on each floor of the building -Reasonable rent prices and large living space -Tons of closet space in the 1-bedroom units -Free parking in the lots -Apartment was immaculate when I moved in AND they let me move in early -Management knew me by name and always said hi to me when I saw them around. I felt very safe and welcomed there Downsides: -I lived right next to the front doors of the building so I could hear everyone come in and out. People would stand outside on the stairs and talk, and I could hear their full conversations -Building is right next to a hill that can be very hard to drive up in the winter when it's icy. -No dogs allowed :( Overall I think this is an excellent place to live, and I would recommend it to anyone. The negatives paled in comparison to the positives, and I found them small and easy to overlook. For the price you pay here, it's really a steal. Management is excellent, apartments are well taken-care of, and the area is safe, convenient, and quiet. I couldn't have asked for a better rental experience.
The name says it all, it a hidden treasure, close to a lot of shopping, minutes to maplewood mall and Rosedale shopping center. Close to 35E and on the bus line. Very convenient and the price is worth it. The apartment is always clean and the yard is well maintain. It a family run apartment so they take very good care of it
