With a beautiful campus spread across both banks of the Mississippi River, the University of Minnesota puts you right at the center of the action in one of the Midwest’s most exciting urban communities. The Washington Bridge connects the east bank and west bank portions of campus, a walking route that most students become quite familiar with in spite of their best efforts to stay on one side or the other. The campus culture is full of unique traditions that may take a little while to get used to, but you’ll be yelling “Ski- U-Mah” at hockey matches and dressing up in farm animal costumes for basketball games at The Barn in no time.
Minnesota is infamous for its punishing winters, but luckily the Gopher Way tunnel system is available for you to traverse the main campus with minimal exposure to the elements. Of course, when the weather is nice, you may find yourself studying outside while soaking in the sun on Northrop Mall. Off-campus fun is never far, with the clusters of dining and nightlife in Dinkytown and St. Anthony close at hand and Downtown Minneapolis just a few blocks from campus.
