    • The capital of North Carolina and one of the points on the Research Triangle, Raleigh offers access to amenities and employment opportunities not found in other parts of the state. Local, state, and federal agencies call this city home – as do a number of IT companies and research institutes. Located only a couple hours drive from the mountains and the sea, Raleigh is a centrally located city that has been experiencing a population boom for the past decade.

Finding Apartments for Rent in Raleigh, NC

When you move to Raleigh, you'll find that apartment rates fluctuate throughout the year. Most properties offer a sliding scale pricing model with higher rents as college students flood the city in August and lower prices in May. However, there are some parts of the city that command premium rents throughout the year because they are the most desirable neighborhoods. No matter where you choose to live in Raleigh, you'll find easy access to all the amenities this city has to offer.

      Top Neighborhoods in Raleigh, NC

The three top neighborhoods in Raleigh are Brier CreekNorth Hills, and Mordecai. In Brier Creek, you'll find new shops and an easy commute to Research Triangle Park (RTP) or Umstead State Park. Like a small Silicon Valley on the east coast, RTP is home to many of the countries leading research centers in the fields of bio technology, agriculture, information technology, and pharmaceuticals. If you work at one of these firms or simply enjoy communing with nature in Umstead State Park, you'll love Brier Creek.

Closer to the capital, yet not too far from RTP, you'll find North Hills. This mixed use development includes an open-air shopping mall, cinema, hotel, restaurants, shops, and lots of office space. Many of the multistory buildings house shops on the ground floors, offices just above that, and apartments in the upper floors. Surrounding these shops and businesses, you'll find a number of single-family homes all connected to the community by sidewalks. This part of town is very walkable and offers enough amenities to make it difficult to find a reason to venture far from home. There's even a farmer's market in the open-air mall from spring through fall.

If you prefer to live in the city yet out of the downtown area, the Mordecai neighborhood is a great option. This part of Raleigh was built up in the late 1700's, shortly after the Declaration of Independence was signed. When you're looking for a historic neighborhood and easy access to the heart of the city, you'll want to settle in Mordecai.

      Cultural Attractions in Raleigh, NC

As mentioned above, the Mordecai neighborhood has long been a popular part of Raleigh. Today, you'll find a historic park with a collection of homes dating back to the 1795 birthplace of President Andrew Johnson. People regularly gather at this park for tours, Easter egg hunts, food truck rodeos, picnics, and other community events.

Dubbed the “Smithsonian of the South”, Raleigh offers more than 40 free attractions and museums to keep you steeped in culture. There are museums of art, history, technology, and even a kids museum for younger patrons.

      Shopping in Raleigh, NC

The three main shopping malls in Raleigh are North HillsCrabtree Valley, and Triangle Town Center. These malls are located in the northern part of the city along the I-440 and I-540 beltways. As described above, North Hills is a mixed use development with a very walkable open-air mall. Crabtree Valley and Triangle Town are more traditional malls with two floors of indoor shopping surrounded by a few free-standing shops.

Outside of shopping malls, there are a number of areas where stores have clustered together. Cameron Village and Brier Creek are just two of these venues. Additionally, the downtown area has a number of local boutique shops that offer a unique selection of goods.

      Sports in Raleigh, NC

If you enjoy playing sports with other amateur enthusiasts then you'll love the Raleigh Meetup scene. There are groups that meet all over the city to play pickup soccer gameshike through parks and trailsplay disc golfride their bikes, and engage in a number of other outdoor activities.

If you're more of a spectator than a competitor, Raleigh has you covered there too. You'll find the Carolina HurricanesCarolina MudcatsCarolina RailHawksCarolina RollergirlsCary Invasion, and all the collegiate sports teams from NC StateUNC, and Duke are close by. These are just some of the spectator sports you can find in and around Raleigh. It doesn't matter if you prefer to play or if you just like to watch, Raleigh offers a wide range of options for sports enthusiasts.

      Weather in Raleigh, NC

The weather in Raleigh is very mild. Summers peak out at about 90°F with very few days making it over 100°F. Similarly, in the winter, the daytime temperatures tend to hover just above freezing with overnight lows dropping into the 20's. What few days it does snow, or when there is ice accumulation, the whole city closes. Since the number of days with winter weather is so few, there's no need for plows, snow tires, chains, and snow shovels. Instead, the people of Raleigh simply take a day or two off from work and wait for the snow and ice to melt. However, you will notice a marked increase in spring time pollen compared to other parts of the country. In Raleigh, the months of April and May are filled with so much pollen that it turns the asphalt yellow in driveways and parking lots.
