This isn't Takoma Park. Sure, the name is similar, but the difference is key: Takoma is a neighborhood in DC. Tacoma Park is a city in Maryland. And while they share a border -- Eastern Avenue Is all that separates one from the other -- Takoma residents don't appreciate being confused with their neighbor. Takoma began as DC's first suburb in 1883. Back then, this railroad community was advertised as having "no malaria, pure air, and delightful shade." Today, it is still considered a healthy neighborhood, known for its vegan restaurants and walkable streets.
Takoma is about six miles north of Downtown Washington DC and is well-known for its healthy living initiatives. The homes in the area were built around 1920 and tend to have larger yards and more trees than other metro neighborhoods. Prices tend to be slightly lower in Takoma, which makes this area very popular.

Living at the Hartley has been great, very convenient for our commute and everything we need is a short walk or drive away. Some neighbors are very nice and considerate, others less so, the amenities are great, a few issues still persist (middle of the night fire alarms, occasional parking garage issues) but overall a positive experience.

The Hartley is a great place to live. It is very clean, safe, the amenities are great and well maintained, and the staff is friendly and responsive. My only issue is the amount of smoke you can smell for this to be a smoke free building. You can smell it in the hallways and when the windows are open.

While staff and support staff are amazing there is a lot left to the imagination where the community currently is. Fire alarms, domestic violence, loud neighbors are all part of living within this complex. Don't expect anything less than this truth!

The Hartley is a wonderful place to live in. The location is perfect, the amenities wonderful, and so is the staff. If you can afford it and looking for an apartment, I wouldn't look anywhere else.

Turnover in concierges is telling. They were friendly and supportive. Units are not built well. I have cracks in the paint…again, I believe from the stomping of the upstairs neighbors. They are up all hours of the day and night. Woke up one night to water pouring through my ceiling lights in kitchen because of something they did . If you rent here, beware of leasing a unit in the back as the trucks for Whole Foods and to pick up trash are here for what feels like 24/7. Also beware that they expect you to buy rugs to mute the noise for the downstairs neighbors. I don’t think it works. Just poorly constructed.

Great building. I love the gym and the game room. There is a square in front and the police are present. They always have events. The coffee is great and the staff is very friendly.

The move in process was smooth and efficient. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Anthony for his excellent service, kindness and professionalism. He even offered to help with the heavy items. (However, that was not needed). Chase was quick and efficient during our many requests for information and help prior to moving in day. The initial signing of the lease was very quick and easy. Thanks to all!
I recently moved to The Hartley and it has been a pleasant experience. The staff has been very friendly and they clarify all my questions. On the few occasions that I have crossed paths with a resident they have also been friendly. The facilities are well maintained and the community seems to be safe and clean.

So far, the experience has been great. The concierge team is so friendly. The amenities look well maintained. The neighborhood is great and people are friendly. I love my unit and everything seems in order. If I had two small complaints, it would be lack of guest parking options and the need for a carpeting rule since I can hear my upstairs neighbors walking around more than I would like, but those two things are very minor.

Everything is fine, overall. Still some first year glitches here and there. I have more concern with resident behavior (noise, smell of weed, abuse of workout room) than before but staff is respectful. There are definitely things I will miss when I move.

The apt complex is very nice with great amenities, however the staff is really what makes this place a great place to live. I’ve lived here since July and although construction is happening all around, my apt is quiet and quaint.

We have had two leaks in our apartment since July, one of which was due to an improper refrigerator installation and required the flooring to be removed in the kitchen and bedroom for several days, and all we were offered as compensation was a Whole Foods gift card. The flooring by the outdoor grill is also broken and instead of fixing it, the building has surrounded it with traffic cones for months. The retail around the area has also been slow to open and it’s still just Whole Foods at this point. Overall, we are still optimistic that the building and area will be nice in a few months, but wouldn’t recommend it now.

Unfortunately we aren't as happy as we were when we initially moved in. The constant smell of marijuana in the elevators and throughout the hallways is overwhelming. Also music is extremely loud, particularly during working hours and late nights past permitted times.

Hi all, We love to be here. The building are clean and all the facilities are in a good shape. The staff are doing a great job here and they are very considerate and try to help all the time. Further more the management are doing a lot of events for us.

Really nice apartment, amenities and staff. Dog friendly, our dog loves it here. Cute community events in the apartment building and right outside on the lawn. Would live here again!

Moved in early July. Process was relatively smooth, with some hiccups that keep it from being a full 5 stars. Called 2 weeks prior to move-in to reserve freight elevator, connected to front desk. Front desk took message but didn't actually reserve, resulting in gap between movers and elevator availability and wasted time. On inspection, bathroom doors didn't latch, had to call in maintenance to fix. On inspection, several outlets discovered to have no power connected, still waiting on electrician to come in and connect. Apartment is livable, just not very convenient at the moment. Cass from the leasing office is great, super helpful at communicating and facilitating fixes, just wish we didn't have to rely on him so much. Amenities and area seem really good, excited to live here once the issues get fixed
