Property Ratings at The Varsity Maryland
This was a place for my son and his friends attending UMD College park. Do NOT recommend - look anywhere else... Just a few of the issues uncovered upon move-in: *apartment a mess at move-in. clearly not cleaned from previous tenants including clothes under a tipped-over dresser, furniture scattered in the rooms. * A/C not working on move-in and still not fixed after 2 weeks during heat index over 100. Repeated excuses and delays * knob missing from washing machine rendering it non-functional, no response on a fix * lease process filled with mistakes (incorrect payments listed, discounts not applied). If I had not been vigilant this would have been missed - maybe this was not intentional but at the least another sign of a lack of professionalism/competence. *shower rod broken and no response/fix after 2 weeks I cannot compare with other buildings in the college park area - maybe they are all like this. But for the cost this is worse than any experience I had in terms of awful management and maintenance. This is the kind of place that gives landlords a bad name.

- Frequently ignored maintenance requests, taking WEEKS to fix simple issues or not fix them at all, had an outlet that was broken the entire time I lived here and the washer/dryer was out of commission for a month - Lost my packages on multiple occasions, some being expensive - Trash chute was not emptied for weeks, leaving piles of garbage by the opening that brought in flies and left a horrible smell - Mold is abundant in all units, bathrooms have poor ventilaiton that allow it to grow - More than half of the units did not have A/C during the summer - WiFi constantly went out during the school year - Creepy men were able to come into the building and harass girls in the gym - When I called to ask about move in information, the office hung up on me three times in a row - The front desk was frequently empty, making it hard to ask questions or get packages The only reason I lived here is because Looneys is my favorite bar and my friends chose to be here too. Nearly all of us have left. Don't waste your time and money.

Lived here for 2 years and it was always something, whether it was the terrible WIFI, weekly unnecessary fire alarms, appliances breaking with no maintenance fulfillment, leaf blower at 9am on weekdays, no security on the doors, and all of this at a heavy price. I can honestly keep on going with the problems too.

All night long it is so LOUD. The building actually vibrates from the club downstairs.

Had a wonderful interaction with Craig on our scheduled tour. Unfortunately the property was fully leased and I was unable to get a lease but hopefully as the semester goes on the waitlist will open up and I can get a spot!

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Close to campus and decently quiet at night for my apartment. It can vary based on which apartment you get since some are close to the parking lot and Looneys. Overall, big rooms and bathrooms compared to other apartments for a lower price!

Hi there, thank you so much for your positive comments about The Varsity! We are so happy to read such a great review about The Varsity! We look forward to your next visit! Take care!
Rooms are adequate and depending on which apartment you get it can be very nice! At nights, it may be a bit noisy due to patrons from Looney’s. It would be nice if external stairwell exits were open to residents as it’s much easier to access the apartment from side entrances rather than the main ones.

Hi, we are so happy to read such a great review about The Varsity! We are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience. If you have any further questions, please give us a call. We're always happy to help!
The place is clean but way overpriced and they always find ways to tack on extra money. You WILL pay more than the ticket living here, even for trashbags left behind during move out. You cant use the exterior stairs to get to your apartment which makes it very hard to move in and also takes way longer to get to your apartment plus it's a safety and health hazard. Elevators break frequently, management doesn't respond to any criticism and doesn't care for the wellbeing of residents, theres also a huge added charge if you pay your rent with a credit card. Walls are paper thin, I can hear my neighbors conversations and that makes parties even worse (which can happen week nights until 3am and there is no one who supervises or enforces them). Dont waste your time or money please, I cannot stress how much I hated living here.

The first review is very accurate. The location is great; apartments aren't bad. Management will not help, nor take responsibility for any inaccurate information provided. Avoid Marquis, the head of management. He will seem nice at first, but will refuse any help or responsibility. If any chance of interacting with management, stay far away.
I live at the varsity in college park Maryland. I'm a college student and I wanted to live off campus. I have stayed here for two years. But ultimately it's not perfect. It's neat and clean most times but because the Varsity is near a college. It gets noisy during weekends. The rent is pretty high as well for an apartment that I share with three(3) more people. But its still quite comfortable and I have my own personal bathroom. The staff are quite helpful and polite and I have grown to like the community atmosphere at Varsity. In the end it's not the perfect housing solution. If I was to score the varsity in 4 important categories out of 10. Comfort- 7.5 Cost - 5 Amenities -8 Security -7 So that's my review.
Extremely close to campus, a bit far from the bars, management does not help residents, security and front desk people rock, maintenance helps you quicker if they like you(nice guys), pretty apartments, cheap walling, they charge for everything, sassy managers
