With its ocean breezes and laidback vibe, New Orleans East provides easy access to all of New Orleans’ attractions but in a quieter setting with fewer tourists. Locally known as simply the East, this neighborhood is separated from the rest of the city by the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, giving it a sense of being somewhat detached. However, the East is only 10 miles to the French Quarter, giving residents quick access to some of NOLA’s world-famous nightlife and Cajun and Creole eateries.
This large neighborhood is located between Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne. The East is known for being home to Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge, a vast marsh with walkways popular for fishing, bird-watching, alligator sightings, and Six Flags New Orleans. While New Orleans East is primarily residential, there are a few restaurants and businesses located throughout the area. The East maintains NOLA’s tradition of mouth-watering, flavorful Southern cuisine.
