The Emerald City offers the absolute finest in big-city living with an unbeatable natural backdrop
Planted on the shores of Puget Sound and enjoying glorious views of the Cascade Mountains, Seattle enjoys possibly the most scenic location of any major American city. Skyscrapers like Columbia tower and the iconic Starbucks and Amazon headquarters buildings grace the skyline. Many of Seattle’s most famous attractions are equally popular among locals and visitors: The Pioneer Square area downtown and the famous Pike Place Market in particular are each rich with the history of the area, and attract lots of well-deserved foot traffic.
The arts scene is one of the most active in the nation, with galleries, stages, and public artwork everywhere you look. Boasting over 80 live music venues and 15 symphony orchestras, Seattle has the highest club and music event attendance per capita in the U.S. and has produced countless world-famous musicians, from Ray Charles to Nirvana. The Bumbershoot music festival, held over Labor Day weekend, is one of the world's largest.
An ideal community for active lifestyles, there are ample green spaces in town, as well as hiking and skiing areas accessible just outside of the city (it’s also one of the most bike-friendly communities in the nation). The Queen Anne neighborhood offers the best of big city living in Seattle, with gorgeous homes and apartments, great food, a wealth of theaters and a thriving farmer's market, not to mention breathtaking views of the city.
The University District (U-District), Wallingford, South Lake Union and Capitol Hill are bustling, energetic neighborhoods in the heart of Seattle. If the suburbs are more your style, there's the Bellevue and Kirkland neighborhoods east of Seattle just on the other side of Lake Washington.

Living in Seattle
There's definitely no shortage of great coffee and exquisite cuisine in the greater Seattle area. You can grab coffee at Peet's or the original Starbucks location near Pike Place Market, but there are many other excellent coffee chains to choose from: Tully's, Cafe Ladro, Diva Espresso as well as lots of independent cafes. If you're down at Pike Place Market early enough, have breakfast at the Athenian Inn or Lowell's. For breakfast and lunch, just about every type of cuisine is represented in Seattle, from Brazilian steak houses to excellent Thai, your pick of Mexican food and an abundance of Indian restaurants (try a lunch buffet.) Love Asian food and culture? Visit International District downtown for a satisfying dim sum experience. You can sample Ethiopian fare as well as Middle Eastern, Greek, Russian and even Hawaiian, but you should have lunch in the Space Needle at least once (or whenever you have first-time visitors from out of town.) Salty's restaurant on Alki offers excellent seafood along with great Puget Sound views, as do Ray's and Anthony's in Ballard.
