Students at the University of Washington enjoy an enviable combination of factors that make the college so unique: a huge population of peers, an incredible city surrounding the campus, and direct access to the stunning natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. One of the defining characteristics of campus is the collective of cherry trees on the quad, whose pink blossoms attract sightseers from around the state every spring. But the scenery doesn’t end there—the campus has a huge waterfront area, providing excellent views across Union Bay and Portage Bay to Montlake and the Washington Park Arboretum. It’s no secret that Seattleites love their coffee (and that Starbucks was born here), so it should come as no surprise that there are tons of small coffee shops both on- and off-campus… at least one is sure to become your new favorite study spot when the library gets too crowded. If you choose to rent a place off-campus, the University District is probably where you’ll live and play. It’s convenient to the main campus and home to some of the most affordable apartments in the city; it’s also packed with terrific cafes, international restaurants, and enough nightlife and entertainment options to ensure that you never get bored on the weekends. And of course, get ready to tailgate for Husky football games…UW is known as one of the best schools in the region for sports, and it only takes one home game to see why.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
