Living in Armour

History

-

Armour grew as a rail-served industrial zone along the Southern Railway and Peachtree Creek in the early and mid 1900s. Warehouses, loading docks, and spur tracks shaped the street grid you see today.

In the late 1990s and 2000s, reuse took off. SweetWater Brewing moved into a former warehouse in 1997, and the Armour Yards district followed with restored brick buildings, murals, and maker spaces. The Atlanta BeltLine plan connected the area to nearby neighborhoods, and many structures still show original brick, steel, and clerestory windows.

Restaurants

-

Armour's restaurant scene leans casual with taprooms, grills, and long-running neighborhood classics nearby. For names with staying power, SweetWater Brewing Company has poured since 1997 and pairs house beer with pub-friendly bites and a big patio.

Just down Cheshire Bridge Road, the Colonnade Restaurant has served comfort food since 1927, and Nakato Japanese Restaurant has offered teppanyaki and sushi since 1972. All three are open today and sit within a quick drive of Armour.

Transportation

-

Drivers have fast access to I-85, GA 400, and the Buford Spring Connector. Piedmont Road and Cheshire Bridge Road handle most local trips to Midtown, Buckhead, and Lindbergh.

MARTA's Lindbergh Center Station, about a mile or two north, links to the Red and Gold rail lines. Buses run along Piedmont and Cheshire Bridge. For bikes and walks, the BeltLine Northeast Trail cuts near the district, with connections toward Piedmont Park and to PATH400 via the South Fork trail bridges. Sidewalks are improving, and most everyday spots are a short ride away.

Parks

-

Armour sits by the South Fork Conservancy trails, including the Confluence area where path bridges link creeks, PATH400, and Lindbergh. Armand Park offers a small green space and a nature trail nearby.

Piedmont Park is an easy bike ride via the BeltLine for festivals, fields, and a dog park. Peachtree Hills Park is close for tennis and playgrounds, and Atlanta Memorial Park with the Bobby Jones Golf Course is a short drive west.

Cost

-

The average 1-bedroom rent in and around Armour typically runs about $1,900 to $2,100 per month, with many newer buildings setting the pace. Two-bedrooms often range from roughly $2,600 to $3,000. Overall costs trend a bit higher than the Atlanta average due to the central location between Midtown and Buckhead.

Shopping

-

For everyday needs, Ansley Mall to the south and Lindbergh Plaza to the north cover groceries, pharmacies, fitness, and big-box staples. Most errands can be handled within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

For home and design, check out Miami Circle's galleries and showrooms. Cheshire Bridge Road has long-time furniture outlets, lighting stores, and late-night eats. Inside the district, Armour Yards adds coffee roasters and breweries for quick pick-ups and casual meetups.
