5 Charities on Partnering with Multifamily to Make a Difference

 

From fighting food insecurity to providing shelter for vulnerable individuals, the multifamily industry is at the heart of important charitable work across the United States and Canada. In this special episode in honor of our ThanksGifting campaign, Marcia B. sits down with representatives of five charities that work closely with the multifamily industry to discuss their mission and impact.

 

 

Meet the guests and host

Keli Lynch-Wright is the founder and executive director of Hatching Hope, a disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization. After losing their home in an apartment fire, Keli and her son founded Hatching Hope to provide relief to multifamily residents displaced by fires, floods, hurricanes, and other disasters. Since then, the Alabama-based organization has expanded beyond the Southeast and has now served 1.3 million multifamily residents nationwide.

Kristen Poteet is the senior vice president of external affairs for Entryway, a national nonprofit that provides pathways out of homelessness through employment in the multifamily industry. Entryway supports homeless and at-risk individuals and families with career training, employment, and housing. Kristen has been instrumental in the rebranding and expansion of the organization, formerly Shelters to Shutters.

Jennifer Bushinger-Ortiz is the development director of Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that partners with moving companies and multifamily communities to divert food from landfills to food pantries. With over two decades of experience in the nonprofit sector, Jennifer drives fundraising and partnerships at Move for Hunger to fight food insecurity and reduce food waste.

Bridget O’Connell is the executive director of CoreGiving, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating childhood hunger. Under Bridget’s leadership, CoreGiving has raised over $16 million and mobilized thousands of volunteers around the world, providing over 77 million meals to children and families in need. With support from multifamily properties, CoreGiving provides direct funding to over 100 hunger relief providers.

Bernadette Majdell is the CEO of HomeSpace, a Canadian nonprofit that builds, maintains, and manages affordable housing for vulnerable individuals and families in Calgary. With over 20 years’ experience in affordable housing development and property management, Bernadette has made HomeSpace a leading provider of affordable housing in Calgary. She serves on the board of the Calgary Homeless Foundation and helped create the city’s 10-year plan to end homelessness.

Marcia Bollinger is the senior vice president of multifamily for Apartments.com. With over 40 years’ experience in apartment lead-generation tactics, Marcia was instrumental in building the Apartments.com Network into the country’s premier internet listing site. She is the recipient of the National Apartment Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Certified Apartment Supplier designation, and NSC Victor Award.
