Once a popular industrial district, East Downtown Houston has become an increasingly popular locale in the fourth most populous city in America. Situated between the 45 and 69 freeways near the University of Houston, EaDo as it’s frequently abbreviated, has residents and developers alike flocking to its characterful streets.
Previously abandoned warehouses have made way for breweries, entertainment venues, restaurants, and apartments. The neighborhood’s proximity to the University of Houston makes it a prime spot for students and faculty alike. The area plays host to the popular Houston Dynamo soccer team at the BBVA Compass Stadium, and a slew of popular restaurants and bars around Emancipation Ave. and Polk St.
East Downtown offers plenty of character and amenities all while being just a ten-minute walk from the center of Houston.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Gateway on Cullen
Absolutely disgusting. It’s to the point of no return. I had FOUR mice that I had to get supplies to trap all on my own because they didn’t care. Didn't have a mail key for months. Hallways and stairwells and elevator and units DISGUSTING. Musty and smoked out.
If I could rate this place less than one star I would. they have no sense of urgency for emergencies and they have rats everywhere. this is like my 4th one I'm seeing in my apartment this leasing year alone and every time I tell the leasing office (the managers at that) they don’t do anything. Apparently I’m on a list for an exterminator that we don’t even have right now. How does an actual apartment have no exterminator? This place needs to be shut down immediately. They want you to pay the rent immediately but won’t take care of their issues immediately. Disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone EVER. Not to mention trash and dog poop everywhere.
Recently moved into Gateway. I read a lot of reviews and was a little skeptical, but have had a good experience so far. The pool is open and great, love the clubhouse area. The new Starbucks is super close and they are adding more retail nearby. The shuttle takes me straight to campus. Not bad in my opinion.
Love the amenities! The pool is beautiful and the clubhouse is spacious and great for studying!
The management is terrible. The front gate is always broken, trash everywhere in the complex, and pet waste everywhere as well. The gym is missing a majority of the equipment. The pool has been a swamp since I moved in. There are no amenities practically. I will definitely not be renewing my lease and I recommend not to sign a lease here.
The other review is right. This place looks nothing like the pictures. If your interested in amenities such as pools and gym use run. The pool has looked like a mucky green swamp since I have moved in and half of the equipment in the gym is missing or non functioning. My unit also was infested with roaches and no one cared even in the slightest. The room you will receive will most likely be dirty, with the previous owners laundry and trash still in the unit. There’s literally nothing good about this place especially for the money. Id look else where. On the apartment app right now looking for a new apartment so I can run after my lease is up.
DO NOT SIGN A LEASE HERE. THEY MOVED ME INTO A MOLD INFESTED AND UNINHABITABLE ROOM/ APT AND ITS BEEN 2+ WEEKS AND THEY STILL HAVEN’T FIXED IT. Before moving into this apartment I had my reservations because of the previous reviews, but after calling the Apts and speaking to a leasing agent I was reassured that most of the reviews were one sided and just people complaining. So I gave it a chance, worst decision of my life. When I first moved in I specifically asked management if I would be moving into an apartment that was as is, due to me moving in SEPT 1st. The assured me that I would not and someone would clean in right before move in. Nothing of the sort has been done. Apparently the previous tenant to my room was EXTREMELY dirty and I can tell. I moved into an apt that looked like it was NEVER touched. At first I was confused on how they missed my room, only for me to learn from my roommates that they actually did come and clean my room they just half way cleaned it.basically ya’ll don’t care that you’re moving me into an uninhabitable apt. Upon Moving in I NOTICED that nothing was clean, the walls were dirty black and had (PERIOD BLOOD STAINS ON MY WALL) the floors were dirty, with unidentifiable red spots on the wall. The blinds have brown marks all on them. My carpet has a large burn hole in it ......the furniture had what looked to be mold stains on it. I let the office know on my actual move in date, (Sept 1.) they said they would handle it... days go buy and nothing happens. On SEPT 3rd I let them know that nobody has come to clean or replace my carpet (however someone did come in to put all of the plug covers back on) they ASSURED me again, that they were working on it, FRIDAY comes along and my room is still untouched, My mom and I get in touch with Caliber Living and they give me The regional managers number and she apologizes and says she will get it taken care of for me? I receive a call on SEPT 11th from management on site and they say that I will be getting my room cleaned first thing in the morning and Maintenance will be In to paint my room and do the other repairs. IT IS NOW SEPT 17TH and my room has not been touched. I’ve been sitting in a room with MOLD under my bed and BODILY FLUIDS ON MY WALL and nobody seems to care. SO LIKE I SAID AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST, because apparently this isn’t their first time moving someone into a halfway clean apt. THE WHOLE APT IS DIRTY AND MANAGEMENT and staff alike are unprofessional
