Asylum Hill is just one mile from Downtown Hartford, affording residents year-round access to city celebrations and festivals. The community is over 615 acres and slightly hilly, with the largest hill located to the west of the downtown area.
Aside from its natural river border, Asylum Hill is bound by Interstate 84 and railroad tracks. Before insurance agencies moved into the area in the 1920s, the community was mostly farmland. Aetna remains a staple and large employer in the community – the company is located on Farmington Avenue.
The community is pretty multicultural and attracts tourists with its historic landmarks, such as the Mark Twain House and Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. In addition to their affordable apartments, residents enjoy taking a stroll through Sigourney Square Park.

Beautiful Large Artist's Lofts at ArtSpace Hartford
Beautiful large artist's lofts with 15 ft ceilings and 10 ft windows and spectacular views of Bushnell Park, the State Capitol building, and Downtown Hartford. 3500 SF Art Gallery on the main floor: enjoy monthly public Art Openings, laughter yoga and healthy potluck dinners. The building and grounds are well maintained and all of the units have new kitchen cabinets and granite countertops. Laundry facilities on site. Across the street from Union Station, on all the buslines including Bradley Flyer, and easy access to I-84 and I-91. Walking distance to everything Downtown Hartford has to offer: Pratt Street, YMCA (sauna/steam and Zumba), bars/restaurants, XL Center, Hartford Stage, Theaterworks, the Bushnell Theater, the public library, etc. Located just 3 miles to University of Hartford and 2 miles to Trinity College. Half a mile to St. Francis Hospital and 1.5 miles to Hartford Hospital. The rents are very reasonable for Downtown living, and pets are allowed. The residents all know each other, it's like one big family here. I have lived here for five years now, and hope to stay for a very long time.
