There are multiple bus services with express connections between Albany and New York. Mega Bus is generally the best option price wise. Their buses are clean and have attractive, brightly-colored upholstery. Some of them have extensive skylights. Departure and arrival are usually on time. They avoid most city traffic by going through the Lincoln tunnel from Manhattan into New Jersey. The trip takes just over 3 hours each way and costs about $35 round trip. Mega Bus has a station in the Amtrak parking lot in Albany. While it’s easy enough to do a round trip to NYC in a single day, it’s much more relaxing to spend at least one night there.
