About This Home
Spacious and dramatic 2 bedroom apartment perched atop Sumner Hill. Here in this apartment, antique charm meets contemporary "open plan." The spacious, broad kitchen has many yards of deep counter space plus an alcove off the kitchen under a tall skylight is perfect spot for a breakfast nook, or a lovely, quiet spot for a home office space. The floors in the bedrooms are the original hard pine floors, with the deep reddish-gold patina that is characteristic of wood that is a century and a half old. Since the house is situated in a neighborhood built built immediately after the Civil War. The old-growth trees tower over your walk home. The neighbors love gardens as much as the original Victorian occupants did, luckily; glorious perennial gardens line your path home. Three tall skylights add drama and light to the dining area, living room and kitchen. another in the kitchen, The apartment is two blocks from TWO different T lines: the Orange Line (Green Street Station) that rapidly takes north into the city and the Green Line's 39 Bus runs to the Longwood Medical Area, The Avenue of the Arts and beyond. The walk to our Orange stop is about 6 minutes long. The 39 Bus stops at the end of our street, which is about a five minute brisk walk downhill -- or half that if you have to run to catch the bus. We are one block from Centre Street, where you will find many great restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a CVS, Post Office, a print shop, bike shop and two small grocery stores, a tech shop, and vintage clothing shops. The yard is enormous and landscaped to encourage everyone in the building to go outside and enjoy! The yard is separated into two levels by a long, serpentine Pennsylvania flat stone wall that is a work of art itself. There are stone patios on both levels, all with wifi signal. One table sits under our Macintosh apple tree which bares delicious fruit. Another patio is a mosaic cut out of hand-cut ocean-stone, filled with ocean-bottom fossils. Perennial beds and fruit-bearing trees line the brick entry path. We harvested fruit and vegetables (two veggie gardens) from June to November last growing season. You are welcome to bring a book and hand out by the back yard koi pond any time. The sound of two water walls and one spitting turtle is hard to resist. We leave a jar of koi and gold fish food on the stone wall beside the pond and they will swim right up to anyone offering food! What a colorful show of darting, wiggling red, yellow, navy, sky blue, black, pink, and silver! I live with my small family on the first floor. We are quiet and welcoming. Parking on our street is readily available and totally free with no permit required, although you can, as a Jamaica Plain resident, get a sticker that will allow you to park anywhere in JP that permit parking is in force.
