Valley Stream is a quiet suburban village in western Nassau County, just east of JFK Airport. As a primarily residential community, the commercial sector balances a healthy mix of national chains and mom-and-pop storefronts, with Green Acres Mall and the locally-owned shops and restaurants along Rockaway Avenue within walking distance of one another.
The schools perform exceptionally well, and the local crime rate is quite low. Several large public parks can be found on the banks of the village’s namesake stream, which runs north-south through the community. Just thirty minutes from Manhattan by train, Valley Stream has become a popular home base for commuters seeking more breathing room while still convenient to the city.

Property Ratings at The Hawthorne
Downsizing from our home of 15 years was an emotional experience but management (Joe) and Keith made the transition easier. The apartment, the facilities and the outdoor space are beautiful and tranquil. The community seems very friendly. Our new way of life has started off with a lot less stress.

Thank you for your 5 star review! -Hawthorne Community Manager
I just moved in to the community and I can say I am very impress on how the staff of the building represent this building well with honor and safety. The security in the building is very strong as to why I decided to move in. I recommend this building to anyone who is looking for a safe environment
Well maintained and beautiful luxurious apartment complex! The lobby is a view of how beautiful the apartments are in the Hawthorne!
The Hawthorne is a clean and friendly community that is convenient to shopping and commuting.
Overall the Hawthorne is a beautiful place to live. The rooms are spacious. I use the gym almost every morning and it is clean and sanitized. The garage is spacious and the fellow tenants are friendly. I have no problems living here.
The Hawthorne is a nice place to live. My apartment is spacious and has a private patio. The building also has an exercise room, a party room and a large patio with grills, picnic tables and lounging.
Love the apt and quit and upkeep and cleanliness. The garage is great as is trash valet. New flowers are lovely in courtyard and lobby redo is stunning. Such detailed painting We miss Patrick but I met Grace who is awesome. This place is outstanding
Love the quiet, safe and friendly environment. Needed exactly that for my move, and it was achieved!
I am very happy so far with my decision to move here. I love the apartment and patio space I have. The providing of carts in the HUB area for tenants use is a big plus on how far management will go to make our time here wonderful.
The Hawthorne is a wonderful community. Our apartment is very spacious and meets all of my familys needs. We love the amenities & the flexibility of accessing them at our leisure. Quiet & clean common areas ie. lobby, hallways.
Living at The Hawthorne has been a pleasant experience. Patrick, Keith and Erick show that they really care for their residents and always respond to inquires and concerns in a timely manner.
Living at The Hawthorne is a wonderful experience. Its the best luxury rental in Nassau County. If someone is seeking a comparable rental, they should use The Hawthorne as a toolbar.
A great place to live. Management and maintenance are very professional and helpful. Building is always clean and well maintained.
Great building. Good service. Sound proof between apts could be better
The Hawthorne is a cant miss place to live! Not only is it right In the middle of everything, also Patrick and Keith (Building manager and Head Of Maintenance) do an awesome job at making sure you feel right at home. I urge anyone to give The Hawthorne a try, I promise you won’t regret it!!
The Hawthorne is a lovely place to live because it is close to shopping, restaurants and the LIRR. It also has a garage that is spacious and well maintained.
I moved recently to Hawthorne and have been overall very content with the service from the community team. My apartment is a great size for the price and area. Keith always is friendly (especially early in the morning as Im rushing out the door) and consistently asks me how I am and if everything is okay in the apartment. My apartment is great and I have some plans to actually finish unpacking sometime soon! Patrick helped me out with moving in and was awesome with making sure everything in my apartment was good. The community seems to be pretty small and for an apartment its been quiet. I have yet to make use of the clubroom downstairs but i can tell you i do make use of the AWESOME Amazon locker system!
Checked out Hawthorne just recently for an apartment. I met with Patrick for my tour, he was informative and knowledgeable about Hawthorne and the neighborhood. When we toured the building, we bumped in to two of the maintenance workers, both of which were super pleasant and greeted me and my significant other warmly. It was overall a great visit and I thank the management team for taking the time to show me around.
My Fiancé and I relocated from South Florida to Long Island on December 2017. It's not easy finding in-room laundry, garage parking, and spacious units in New York and The Hawthorne Apartments had them all! The surrounding area is safe and there are lots of restaurants in walking distance. There are parks in all directions which are quiet and peaceful. Public transportation is also close by. The common areas come equipped with a pool table, gym and BBQ in the center of the building. The outdoor space is great for sunbathing and entertaining. I rarely see these areas in use and we can enjoy them to ourselves most of the time. Our car is garage-kept which is great to keep it out of the rain, snow and elements. The garbage is also indoors so no need to go outside. The neighbors are very friendly and greet you. It is a nice community. Pat was great accommodating our schedule and showing us around the unit and common areas. Our 1/1 unit is spacious with an open floor plan. The stainless steel appliances are modern and the kitchen has tons of cabinet and counter space. We were fortunate enough to secure a unit with a large 400 sq ft patio and a chic pergola. We have ample room for our couches and dining set. The walk-in closet has ample space and the bedroom is large enough for dressers and a California king size bed. We see Adrian the most around the property keeping things in order. He's very friendly and caring, always greeting us and our 5 lbs Yorkie, Rolo. In the past 7 months, we have only needed maintenance once and Keith came to the rescue immediately.
