Jamaica Plain, MA


Widely recognized as one of Boston’s greenest and most diverse neighborhoods, Jamaica Plain (or “JP,” as locals call it) is surrounded by the city’s “Emerald Necklace” of parks. Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum is one of the main attractions, taking up a large portion of the neighborhood’s south end. Much of the dining and entertainment lies along Centre Street, in the middle and northern sections of the neighborhood. Rail service connects Jamaica Plain to the rest of the Boston area, with several stops along the eastern edge of the neighborhood.

  • Forest Hills-Woodbourne

    Situated seven miles southwest of downtown Boston, Forest Hills-Woodbourne in Jamaica Plain is a mostly residential neighborhood of multi-family homes for rent. Large green spaces cover much of the neighborhood, with the Woodbourne historical district consisting of houses dating back to the 19th century. Residents walk to the Forest Hills subway station on the Orange Line to head into downtown. This station also acts as a hub for many bus lines to take locals to other parts of the city and is home to a small business area.

  • Hyde Square

    Vibrant and diverse Hyde Square sits between Heath and Boylston Streets, framed by two parks: the Southwest Corridor Park to the east and Olmsted Park to the west. With just about a mile to Northeastern University, Hyde Square is a popular neighborhood for college students. Excellent public transit and busy sidewalks attract new residents, and the large stock of affordable, historic homes as well as the close proximity to some of Boston's most beautiful parks are the reasons they stay.

  • Jamaica Central-South Sumner

    Located about a half an hour from downtown Boston, Jamaica Plain welcomes residents with roomy condominiums and apartments for rent. "JP" began as a streetcar suburb and has become one of the Boston area's favorite neighborhoods. Boston's excellent mass transit system, which includes buses, subways, and light rail, serves this neighborhood.

  • Jamaica Hills-Pond

    Located about five miles southwest of downtown Boston, Jamaica Hills-Pond has many historic multi-family homes for rent. The commercial district lies along Centre Street and provides residents with a wide choice of local restaurants and stores.
