One of the most enduring legacies of that era is Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum, an outdoor theater founded by actor Will Geer that continues to stage Shakespeare productions and folk performances on an oak-shaded hillside. Annual gatherings like the Topanga Days Festival, the Topanga Film Festival, and Topanga Earth Day carry that communal spirit forward each year.

Dining options in Topanga are intentionally few, reflecting the canyon's sprawling scale and deep preference for the local and hand-crafted. The Inn of the Seventh Ray has long been the area's landmark restaurant, set beside a creek and known for organic, locally sourced cooking served in a sun-dappled outdoor setting that makes lunches stretch comfortably into the afternoon. Getting around Topanga means getting in a car. Topanga Canyon Boulevard is effectively the single main access road, running the full length of the community from Pacific Coast Highway in the south to the US-101 Ventura Freeway corridor near Woodland Hills and Calabasas in the north. Public transit within the canyon is extremely limited, and the winding, narrow roads make cycling impractical for most trips.

LAX is approximately 19 miles away, about a 35-minute drive under reasonable conditions. The Metro E Line station at Downtown Santa Monica is roughly 20 minutes by car and provides a rail connection into central Los Angeles. Chatsworth and Northridge Metrolink stations offer commuter rail options about 29 minutes to the north.

Tuna Canyon Park adds 1,255 acres of trails with panoramic ocean views from the summit, while Red Rock Canyon Park offers a striking change of scenery: sandstone formations in shades of red, tan, and pale purple that feel more Southwest than Southern California. The Topanga Creek General Store, a long-standing community fixture near the post office and library, stocks produce, household goods, hardware, and beverages, serving as a practical stop for everyday needs. For broader shopping, residents head to nearby Calabasas, where Calabasas Place and the Gelson's Village at Calabasas are both within roughly a 10-to-15-minute drive. Woodland Hills offers additional retail corridors to the north.

Topanga combines rare mountain scenery with quick access to Malibu, the Westside, and miles of protected trails inside the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
