Named one of the Best National Universities by US News and World Report in 2017, Seattle Pacific University quietly strives for perfection -- it is one of just three universities from Washington State to make the prestigious list. SPU is a private liberal arts university dating back to 1891. It was founded by the Free Methodist Church as the Seattle Seminary. It took its present name in 1977. SPU is located in Seattle's beautiful Queen Anne Hill neighborhood -- the highest hill in Seattle and surrounded by water: Lake Union and the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Queen Anne Hill is filled with historic houses, 29 landmarks, and a historic bridge. This is a pricey neighborhood, but there are several bus stops near the university for those who prefer to commute from other areas of the city. Downtown Seattle is a terrific option, located just four miles south of SPU. The university is located near the intersection of West Bertona Street and 3rd Avenue. To live close to the university and enjoy a variety of nearby shops and restaurants, look along Nickerson Street. Being so close to the Ship Canal, SPU students have access to the waterfront Ship Canal Trail, a popular trail for walkers, joggers, and bicyclists.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
