Howard University is a private research university situated just two miles from the United States Capitol. A leader in STEM fields, Howard is a historically Black university founded in 1867, producing more minority doctoral graduates in Computer Science than any other university in the nation. HU offers more than 120 areas of study, leading to undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. The Howard Bison sports teams mostly compete in the NCAA Division I Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
