Since its founding in 1789, Georgetown University has stood out for the number of government and international affairs professionals it has produced. This private, Jesuit research university is located in Washington, DC, extending from the Potomac River and following Foundry Branch Valley Park, which stretches along its western edge. This beautiful setting is only outdone by the gorgeous architecture, some of it dating back to the mid-1800s. Healy Hall, built in 1877, is a campus landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Georgetown University, home of the Hoyas, has an impressive list of graduates that include former President Bill Clinton, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Congressman Dick Durbin, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, King Felipe VI of Spain, CIA Director George Tenet, and actor Bradley Cooper. The Hoyas are part of NCAA Division I, competing in the Big East Conference. Cheer on the Hoyas football team at Cooper Field, the baseball team at Shirley Povich Field, and the basketball team at Verizon Center. There are many options for apartments near Georgetown University. Georgetown, a large neighborhood surrounding the university, is a historic neighborhood founded in 1751. This neighborhood is one of DC's favorites and is home to several embassies and the oldest building in DC, the Old Stone House (built in 1765). Burleith-Hillandale is located on the north end of the university. This terrific neighborhood is nicknamed the "Village in the City." If you don't mind a short commute, Rosslyn is located directly across the Potomac from Georgetown University and it offers fantastic views of the DC skyline.
