Adjacent to downtown New Haven, Yale campus, and Yale New Haven Hospital, Dwight is a popular location for students, faculty, university staff, and healthcare professionals. The neighborhood includes the Dwight Street Historic District, renowned for its eclectic variety of Victorian architectural styles.
The close proximity to campus means that locals have access to the extensive dining, entertainment, and nightlife attracted by the student body – A seemingly-endless selection of locally-owned pizza parlors in and around the Dwight neighborhood ensures that you’ll eventually find your all-time favorite spot to grab a slice.

Property Ratings at Howe Place
As much as I wish I could recommend 70 Howe Street, I need to share some serious concerns anyone thinking about moving in should consider. First off, the elevator is constantly broken and management has very little urgency in fixing it each time this occurs. If you foresee having to depend on the elevator at all--please don't move in since the elevator may be broken 3-4 days out of the week. Second, although this issue is now fixed, I think it is still important to mention that the laundry machines in the laundry room were broken for about 1-2 months. This made it very difficult/impossible to do laundry in the apartment building and I would be concerned about having a repeat scenario occur in the future. Third, the apartment entrance is managed so that you unlock it via your phone. Although this use of technology sounds nice, there have been multiple instances in which the lock malfunctions, leaving me unable to access my own home in a timely manner. Unfortunately, it seems that the recent change in management and overall lack of care has led to a decline in what can be expected at 70 Howe Place; I recommend you look elsewhere.
Extremely outdated amenities for the price, it always felt like the apartment was dirty even after cleaning it. Management has gotten way worse, look elsewhere
I sublet an apartment at Howe Place from January - July and am very satisfied with my rental experience. The building is clean and quiet. Mail and package delivery is secure. Laundry room in basement is so convenient. There is a comfy chair to sit if you are waiting for the spin cycle to finish. My apartment (506) was sunny and warm and a great location near the stairs and elevator. Any problems that I had (and perhaps I had 1?) were attended to immediately. Jamie, Leo and Anthony were always available to help and answer questions. Rent was easily paid via the portal and credit card fees were waived during the pandemic. They also had lottery incentives for paying on time ($100 drawings, etc.). I recommend this building without hesitation! Great place at a good location and price in New Haven!
