Directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., Arlington is less a suburb than an extension of the nation’s capital. It’s the home of the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, with a number of waterfront parks offering beautiful views across the river to the National Mall.
The community provides a wide range of living options, from apartments, townhomes, and duplexes to condos and houses. A major reason for Arlington’s popularity is that there is so much to do. Washington may be packed with monuments, museums, and other sightseeing landmarks, but Arlington holds the advantage when it comes to the more day-to-day shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife.
You’ll have several options for getting around town or into D.C., whether you choose to drive, take the Metro, or ride your bike — Arlington has earned a silver rating from the League of American Bicyclists.

Property Ratings at Crystal Plaza
The negative reviews here are a little harsh. I lived in the North Tower which was not affected by the fire. It is right next to a construction site that is very loud, but I would recommend living in the North Tower once that is completed. My classic apartment was in great condition and a good value. The front desk staff is kind. Maintenance requests were completed the same day. I did not have insect or rodent issues. The leasing office could be slow to respond to emails but was helpful when I called or stopped by. Maintenance to amenities (i.e. grills and treadmills) took time but was not abnormal. In response to the fire, management communicated their care for residents and what they were doing to fix issues quickly. This building is not perfect, but it met my needs, is a great location close to the metro, and I enjoyed living here.
Property Manager at Crystal Plaza, Responded To This Review
Thank you, it truly means a lot that you took the time to share your experience. For us, it's all about anticipating and responding to the things that matter most to you. And we are delighted that you are happy with our team at Crystal Plaza Apartments. We look forward to serving you for many years to come. Sincerely, Krista Ashcraft
I have lived here for 4 years. Since Dweck took over management, security has gotten worse, upkeep is poor and they have turned a great amount of the apartments to temp living. Theft is rampant in the garages, Marijuana dispensaries are capable of putting their cards on every door in the building. The shared spaces are bug infested. I have seen so many carpet moths and fruit flies, that they come into individual apartments. The fitness center is seldom cleaned and the equipment often breaks and isn't repaired for long periods of time. The management blames all of this on the recent fire in the South Tower and the surrounding construction. They take no responsibility for their decision to fail to invest in the property through proper upkeep. Similarly, they forced an amenity fee on the residents while not supporting amenities. They take away service and pass the cost to retain the amenities. I suggest you steer clear of this property because even the plants are dying.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. As we discussed when you first informed me of your initial concern revolving you bike, we are currently working through the items that you listed. To discuss further, please give us a call at 703-835-9549 or stop by the office. Thank you Eli Baker Property Manager
I’ve lived here for two and a half years. Over that time, it has gotten worse and worse. Once Dweck took over the management, there was a steep decline in service. The building is very old, and service interruptions to gas, electricity and water are becoming more and more frequent. Management does little to communicate anything. There are far better buildings for around the same price.
This is one of those places that looks pretty on the surface but is a nightmare to live at. Management is incompetent, the concierge people fall into the lazy or useless category and prepare for no heat or air conditioning for several weeks a year when they switch it over. The worst all the extra fees. Those are good for another $500 a month for utilities, 1 reserved parking spot and a single pet. Also, beware there is a provision in the lease that prohibits posting negative reviews. It’s been a long wait to move out so I could write this.
First, Crystal Plaza is beyond overpriced. At first glance, our apartment looked nice. That was until we started living there. Nothing works, and they don't even try to help. Within the first week of moving in, we had to submit five maintenance requests. You might as well send a message into a black hole because none of the claims were processed. Trying to get something fixed is like pulling teeth with these people. After speaking with other tenants, we learned that this was normal. The place is falling apart. The hot water, if lucky, works half of the time. If it does work, enjoy it for the five minutes it lasts. I can't tell you how many times the water just shut off mid shower. The place also has a cockroach problem. I find a dead cockroach in the halls every week, if not every day. The leasing department has to be the most unprofessional group of people I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. The online portal where you pay rent went down, so I went to speak with the leasing department about it. Couldn't get anyone to fix the problem and was charged a late fee. When I asked to have the late fee waived, they told me there was nothing they could do. Seriously, everything about this place is trash. Do yourself a favor, move somewhere else. You'll pay less, live nicer, and be treated much better.
The building has been very nice with lots of activities and things to do close to us. The building is an older building but the management makes good efforts to update it and keep it fresh.
If you're looking for a quiet place with convenient access to grocery, metro access, and social hangouts, then Crystal Plaza is the place to be. Sure, it might be a bit pricey, but let's not kid ourselves: in DC area, everything is expensive. The staff is friendly and professional and will work with you if you have any question. The building is recently going through renovations still where some units have in-unit washer and dryer. The residents are generally young professionals and couples, so the atmosphere is pretty nice overall. The building has its own business center, gym, entertainment room, and laundry rooms. It even has a place for you to wash up your pets! Also, because the building is connected to the Crystal City underground, you literally don't have to walk outside ever when catching a metro. So yeah I'd say for the price you're paying, you're definitely securing yourself a peace of mind
The leasing office is very disappointing. When I applied for 2 bedroom apartment, they were saying it is available on August 31st, but 5 mins later, they said it is not available until September 7th. And they said they could find me a temporary accommodation for free. But the person who is suppose to be contacting me seems forgot about it. She said three times she was going to call me and let me know, but she didn't call me once! And she said in the beginning the temporary accommodation is free because it is the system error, but now they are going to charge me! I am not sure if it is because they don't care about the residents, or they just have bad memories. The application process is VERY disappointing.
Wanted to move in. Was told there was a $99 move-in special. The $60 application fee and ammenities fees were both supposed to be waived. The online app was not able to handle the $99 special, so I had to pay the $100 reservation fee and a $60 application fee, with the understanding that I would pay an additional $39 at signing. I found out on the way to VA that they wanted a 1 month security deposit, which would have been fine if I didn't have a house back in IL. Called them that day to tell them I wasn't moving in. They were hemming and hawing about getting me to move in. When I tried to get my $60 back (I figured I'd have to eat the $100 reservation fee), they said I waited too long and would get no credit.
This building is a rat and bug infested dump. Gates Hudson runs it very poorly. The leasing office has an attitude towards residents and is most unhelpful. The garage is a mess, the units are large but poorly maintained. I would AVOID this place at all costs.
I’ve lived at Crystal Plaza for over 5 years and rented a studio apartment. I would stay longer, but I decided to buy a condo in the area. The apartment has a huge walk in closet and plenty of storage space. I chose to live at Crystal Plaza over other apartments in the area because it offered the best value in Crystal City. The Metro is accessible from an underground tunnel, which is great because you don’t have to walk outside when it rains. Crystal Plaza is also very close to the Mount Vernon bike trail and Reagan Airport. During my time at Crystal Plaza my apartment has always been quiet. I’ve lived at other apartment buildings and always had an issue with loud residents. In a few cases, I’ve heard residents from the hallway, but once you go into your apartment you can no longer hear them. The building is well maintained and the owners of the building have been making recent upgrades. They’ve added new lighting in the parking garage and upgraded the hallways with new carpet and molding. They are also upgrading the lobby, which should look great, because the current one is already very nice. Finally, Crystal Plaza has one of the best pools in the area. The pool is gigantic and has a great open area facing the PBS building. There’s nothing better than sitting poolside during the summer months. There are plenty of chairs to go around and they have two grills available for grilling.
