The trendy neighborhood of Shaw is fast becoming one of Washington, DC’s top neighborhoods. The neighborhood is the birthplace of jazz legend Duke Ellington, and the bars and nightclubs played host to names like Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Marvin Gaye, and Pearl Bailey. Overall great living here and fantastic amenities but there are a few downsides when it comes to the shared spaces. Specially, I’ve had two bikes stolen from the bike storage in this building and no longer feel safe locking my bike there and need to store it in my apartment now. Additionally, the pool chair desperately need to be replaced. Several are broken with bolts or mesh seating ripped, which have been left out and ignored, making it dangerous for anyone who accidentally sits on them. I almost slammed my face into the ground after attempting to settle down at the pool and quickly realized the chair was missing several bolts and screws. Very disappointed this issue was not addressed over the summer.

This apartment used to be a great place to live, but ever since the pandemic ended, it has turned into a heartless money-grabbing scheme. In the time that I lived here, they increased rent to unfathomable amounts. Even worse - when I moved out, they charged me almost $5,000, simply for using floor tape and nails to hang pictures. After being given a cost breakdown, it was clear that they wanted to renovate the apartment and pass the cost along to me. This apartment complex does not care about its residents - only the money they can make off them.

I’ve had a good experience so far. A few things in my apartment were not quite up to par when I moved in (sink not draining properly, AC not working, etc) which was frustrating. But the maintenance team dealt with my requests in a timely manner and were very polite and efficient. Overall great experience!

I have lived in City Market now for 7 1/2 years and recently moved into my 4th unit… obviously a trend. I am a social/active resident who happens to be in a wheelchair from an accident some years back and living here has been such a blessing. First, the maintenance crew has gone above and beyond for me… while even the avg resident feels spoiled with our maint bc all you have to do is request a repair in the app (takes 2 mins) whether it’s an appliance, AC, anything, it’s sometimes fixed same day but usually fixed within 1-2 days max, wizardry if you ask me… in my experience, I have an example for each maint member who’s helped me in some way with specific apt requests or even helping me with random wheelchair malfunctions. The Maint crew (more like friends) - Yonas, Kibru, Ricardo, Meseret (and others I’m missing) have treated me like family and take the unneeded stress away from moving - again I’ve transferred 4 times within the building… can’t say enough good things. I’ve heard horror stories of other buildings where they put in some complaint/request and it’s not fixed or addressed for weeks/months. Kendall, the general manager, is a great leader in the leasing office and as one would expect in a leasing office, there’s staff turnover over the years but she has been here like 6-8 years and is extremely professional, understanding, accommodating and her or the property manager Cameron will always have a convo with you about your concerns, and find common ground- something that I am more than thankful for! She’s got a tough job but has done a great over the years and runs a leasing office that will never let your recommendations, concerns or complaints go unaddressed turning everything into a good experience overall. I would be absolutely remiss if I didn’t also mention the phenomenal Concierge staff, especially those who have been here through the years i.e., Mary (God’s gift to Mother Earth), Todd, Jennifer, and Nikki among other recent others (last couple years) who make this place feel like home day in and day out. It’s truly a good feeling coming home after a long day at work or a long night on the town - either way they’re great! Lastly, the social and tight knit community that City Market cultivates is unparalleled. The amenities are absolutely top-notch combined with fun events the building hosts makes it easy to make friends. If you are new to the city or looking to meet ppl look no further than CMO - will be the best decision you make!

Location is great, with easy access to dining and transportation close by. Convenient with grocery store downstairs. Amenities are nice with a spacious gym and rooftop with stunning views of the city. However, water pressure is a bit weak and walls are pretty thin as sound can be a problem for some. Staff is friendly and professional. Should be mindful that there are third party monthly service charges for package and utility service at this residential property. These are not included in the leasing price but a non optional fixed monthly fee nonetheless. Also, crime in the area has been an issue, but that’s pretty much everywhere in DC. Overall, it is fairly steep on the value side but can be a pleasant living space.

maintenance, cleaning, and front office staff are wonderful. Every morning someone is mopping the lobby and lobby floors. Maintenance are there very quick when something is broken. This building is run like a hotel!

Super friendly and accommodating staff, great location, nice apartment with good amenities. Apartment is well insulated and very little outside noise is heard. Common areas regularly cleaned. Concierge staff is phenomenal!! The only thing that I would say could be better are the apartment finishes. For a luxury apartment building, the interior finishes could be improved: no under sink storage; bathtub faucet off center; only one power source in bathroom and it’s under a cabinet so the hairdryer can be the only thing plugged in. Hardwood floors are beautiful but there is at least one area where they are not flush with each other; no lighting in bedroom or living room. I know there are others but I can’t remember them at this time. But other than that, lovely place to rent!

Overall very good experience - unit is great, amenities beautiful and biggest asset are friendly and competent concierge and maintenance. Minor nuisances are caused by elevator breakdowns and heating. But efforts to solve them as quick as possible are highly appreciated.

Lovely place and quiet. Great amenities and super staff! Can’t beat location too. The gym is spectacular and so is the roof with single lane lap pool. I highly recommend the place.

After a long day at work, I always love coming back here. From the gorgeous view of the city, to the coziness and spaciousness of my apartment, it’s very hard to find something that I don’t love about this place. The fire pits on the roof are a perfect touch to a chilly fall evening, and the fact that this apartment complex hosts such fun events, makes living here even more worth it. City market is definitely the best place to live in DC. Everything about my move-in process and everything about my day-to-day routine is made even better by living here.
