Sterling Park retains much of the character it developed as a planned community in the 1960s, with quiet neighborhoods including apartments and townhouses for rent within walking distance of shopping centers, schools, and parks. Sterling Park residents have short commutes to workplaces along the Dulles Technology Corridor. Some commuters find it more convenient to bike to work on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail, which passes right through Sterling Park. Sterling Park lies six miles northwest of Dulles International Airport and 27 miles northeast of Washington.
Take the kids to Gwen Thompson Briar Patch Park to play on the well-maintained playground and basketball courts. A few blocks away, the Sterling Community Center hosts the town library and kids' summer camps as well as year-round drop-in basketball, volleyball, and archery in the gym.
In the autumn, the community hosts SterlingFest, with fun rides, activities, and booths offering foods and crafts.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
