Hamden, aka the “Land of the Sleeping Giant,” is a verdant city spanning north of New Haven. This charming city is in a lush, mountainous setting where outdoor recreation abounds. For breathtaking views of the Sleeping Giant, head to its namesake park or explore the rugged terrain at West Rock Ridge and Brooksvale Park. Laid-back adventures are provided by golf courses, community parks, and Lake Whitney.

The southern half of Hamden, closest to New Haven, accounts for the busier commercial sections of town. Shopping centers, office complexes, and well-populated residential areas make up most of this side of town. You will be happy here! :-D

I have been living here for six months, and I love it! I signed a lease without seeing it in person as I was moving here from out of state, though my sister toured it for me and loved it. The apt was freshly painted when I moved in, and absolutely spotless. You can tell the complex and apartments are well built with durable materials and nice finishes. The complex is beautifully maintained thanks to the awesome landscaping and cleaning crews, and the management does a great job. They email us community concerns, and also fun things, like the food trucks that come about 3x/month. Having the bark park is great for my dog to have a chance to run around off leash, and in my experience the other tenants are very considerate around sharing amenities. The pool is fabulous, and so is the club house, which can be reserved for your book club or birthday party. Also, whatever they use for soundproofing should be mandatory in all construction; I rarely hear my neighbors. The balcony was a big selling point for me, harder to find than you might think, and there is also plenty of parking for tenants and guests. If you are searching for a home that has everything you need, is well maintained and well run, check this place out! You will be happy here! :-D

Great place to live !

Canal Crossing has been home for me since returning home to Hamden from Active Duty in early 2022. Recently my fiancé and I moved into a two bedroom as we're expecting our 1st kid in Aug of this year. The staff in leasing office and maintenance team are best and incredibly accomdating. I'm happy to call Canal Crossing Home and look forward to starting my family here too!

Location/Grounds/Apt/Staff all Great

If you want something close to New Haven but not IN New Haven, this place is great. The grounds and pool are immaculate and kept to resort level quality. The clubhouse is amazing and a great place to have an event if you want more people than you can comfortably have in your apartment. Staff are super helpful and always available. The one downside is, depending on who is above you, you will definitely hear them moving around. If that will be an issue, get a top floor apartment.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We love it when our residents tell us they feel like they live in a resort. We recommend living on the top floor if potential residents are sensitive to noise. Our floors have close to an inch of gypcrete between the floors to keep sound transfer to a minimum. Great Property and Staff

The apartments look just like the picture. The walls are pretty thing here, and you can hear people walking above you, but people here are pretty reasonable. There are a few families, but mostly young working professionals which is a bonus. Normally don't have to worry about parties or kickbacks from younger residents. A lot of medical students for Frank H Netter School of Medicine live here so most of the time its great for studying. Close to most of the things you will need, and has an awesome walking trail. Gressa in the front office is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and is very helpful. The maintenance staff is also extremely fast and have a quick turn around. I have been here for a year from DC, and look forward to renewing.

Love love love!

The Canal Crossing staff have been super helpful since I came to them back in January. The presentation of the property was absolutely beautiful and I knew within minutes I wanted to live there. The staff responded quickly (and patiently) to any questions that came up during the moving process and were all so welcoming. The apartment itself is gorgeous - all models are totally spacious, even the small studio. Everything was clean and ready upon arrival and the location is great.

Looks good but don't be fooled by shiny bells and whistles.

The walls are thin and the floors and ceilings are even thinner. I have lived here for about one month and a half and unfortunately can hear every sound (footsteps, talking, music, etc) coming from above. It is to the point that I can hear everything (when the guy goes to the bathroom, when he moves a chair to sit down, when he washes his dishes, when he washes his clothes). I have reported this to the management a number of times since I have moved in, but seems like they cannot resolve the major issues (I was told their options are limited since they cannot reconstruct the building) ... obviously. Noise at the early hours of the day and even after midnight. On top of this, construction begins nearly each day with the exception of possibly a day during the weekend before 7AM. In addition, other neighbors have complained about loud noises coming from above and even adjacent apartments (TV noise). Unfortunately, I have been given misinformation before I moved in as the representative mentioned the floors were separated by concrete. Even after mentioning that I could hear the construction noise and I wanted some assurances that I would not hear extraordinary noises when moving in, I was told I would not. Even now as they have “attempted” to reconcile the issue, the truth is nothing has been done and it seems like nothing is going to be done. I would be very wary if I was looking to rent here given what I have experienced. I signed my lease with the hopes of joining a community, unfortunately, their construction has taken communal living to another level.
