Shafter is a charming North Oakland neighborhood with a distinctly suburban vibe: attractive homes, stylish apartments, and lush tree cover fill out most of the local landscape. Telegraph Avenue on the west side and College Avenue on the east side are both packed with coffee houses, international cafes, book stores, and specialty boutiques, ensuring that you’ll always have someplace interesting to go just a block or two from home. FROG Park is a terrific spot for enjoying a sunny afternoon, whether you’re taking advantage of the playground, the running trail, or just the wide-open green space.

Property Ratings at Updated Unit In the Heart of Temescal / Ro...
Pros -The food scene in Temescal is sublime. The variety and the quality of the offerings could almost make the rent price worth it. Almost. -Access to public transportation and the highway is pretty great. -The library was right across the street and the DMV was right down the street. Cons -No physical leasing office, which ultimately meant no immediate access to on-site support. Also, there were two properties being managed by one person, making even harder to get help when needed. -The garage lift was broken/inoperable at least 2-3x a month and those of us who were paying the extra money to not park on the street were told we had to park on the street and there was never a concession in the rent or even an acknowledgment for that inconvenience. -The maintenance situation was rough. There were multiple times that I would receive a “completed” notification…only to find out the order was actually incomplete. It took about 6 months to have my balcony door lock repaired. There’s also the time the main entrance key fob system didn’t work for a couple of days. -There’s no real/secured package room so if a large item was ordered that wouldn’t fit into the locker, it would either just be waiting in the mailroom, outside of your apartment, or right by the main entrance, giving anyone access to your property. -I gave my intent to vacate notice well before the 30 day requirement, along with choosing to set up a move-out walkthrough with the manager on the day of the move-out. Almost a month went by before I heard back about setting up a walkthrough appointment, and even that process was sloppy, which included an offer to do the walkthrough with the lead maintenance guy. When that was done, about a week later I received a letter from a collection agency saying my account with Idora had been sent to them for non-payment: I had been charged for the time after my lease ended and because I didn’t submit any payments, they were reaching out to collect. I was also informed Idora was not only keeping my security deposit but they were charging me way more past the usual wear and tear. They claimed they don’t send accounts to collections before 30 days but clearly that’s not the case. After I forwarded all my documentation showing how I tried to do things the right way, they removed my account from the collection agency and gave me my security deposit.

My boyfriend and I moved here in April and so far, so good. It's been our third year from relocating from the East coast and this is our favorite neighborhood so far. We lived in another new building in the East Bay and this one is much nicer. It's such a great view from our balcony, which is a nice feature. The staff are terrific and it was a very easy process. This is the first time I have actually lived in a building with communicative mgmt. They've been really helpful with all the little things that come along with the move in process. I didn't know this area was so walkable and it's perfect for having friends come over then walk to dinner. It's also nice that it's close to TJ's, Whole Foods, and Berkeley Bowl (my favorite!).
I just moved in here not too long ago and couldn't be happier. The building is great and so is the layout in my unit. I have a nice view of the city and bay as well. The fixtures and finishes are really high end and sooo nice to live with. The neighborhood is one of my favorite parts there are so many great bars and restaurants and it's easy to get to the bART station. I also love the roof deck because of the great weather.
