Property Ratings at The Mill at First Hill
I've been here for quite a while now and I've got some issues. The direct area road work is straight up hazardous on my car, and because of all the roadwork friends / food delivery can't actually get to my building without a thorough knowledge of the streets here. The building water keeps getting shut off, cant turn hot, or on a couple of occasions cant turn cold. The elevators keep getting these just disgusting messes in them, anything from dirty cloth diapers to "its clean but that smell is awful". They seem to think emailing people replaces door notices. There was a massive leak in the building that continued for about 4 months and they mostly just taped it off that whole time. They can't seem to keep their staff, and the best reason I can think of is that upper management must be just awful. The rent is just too much for what I'm getting, and I appreciate that the people working directly with me here are great but the building has a lot of big issues and the neighborhood has gone downhill A LOT. In short, shop around a bit because WOW did they gloss over a lot during my tour.

Hi There, Thank you for sharing this feedback with us as I know that the road work is not an ideal situation when it comes to our parking structure and food delivery. We are sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience lately and I would like the opportunity to discuss some of the issues you mentioned. I can be reached at FAlexander@ElevateToTheMill.com. -F. Alexander, Community Manager
I’ve been at The Mill for 2 years now and it’s been great! The location is prime (close to downtown and Capitol Hill, but without the traffic and tourists) and the amenities are awesome. Especially the year round hot tub! There’s also 2 dog parks, and a fun community of dog owners to hang out with while the dogs are running around :)

The management of this building is absolutely atrocious! Where to even begin? The laundry situation is a joke. You would think that laundry on every floor would be great, it's not. The dryer on our floor has not worked in the 6 months that I have lived here. You are constantly put between building management and the laundry service company. When you go to do laundry, it is not an exaggeration that you might have to go to 4, 5, even 6 different floors to find a washer and dryer that even works. The laundry room on the 2nd floor is DISGUSTING! It often looks like it has not been cleaned in weeks! Not to mention that the washers and dryers there are consistently out of order as well. The gym is full of outdated and non functioning equipment. Neither elliptical works nor have they worked in several weeks. They tell you that service requests will be addressed within 72 hours. That almost never happens. In fact, most of the time they address it by saying they do not have the correct part for whatever your issue is, and then you have to wait a month plus for it to be fixed. I had a heater that was broken for 4 months! They recently replaced the kitchen sink hose and now there are holes in the hose so water goes everywhere when you turn it on. Maintenance says that they do not have the right hose in stock and that it will be a month before they do. Unacceptable. Literally go on Amazon and order a hose and fix the problem. The elevators in the building are consistently down. So if you are on an upper floor, get ready to hit the stairs often. The building is almost always a mess and the carpeting (while horrendous in color and design) is disgusting looking because water is constantly dripping from overhead pipes or running down the walls of the building. And it looks like it is vacuumed maybe once a month. Honestly, do not come to The Mill. I will be leaving here at the end of my lease. I might just break it and pay to get out of it......yes it is that bad. Management does not address anything here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I’ve been living at The Mill for just over a year now and I truly love it! The rates are affordable and the location is one of the best in the city. The office and maintenance teams are so helpful, that may be my favorite aspect of living here. Katelyn is very responsive to emails and is always helpful, and Chris has the most positive, joyful attitude, it’s contagious! They make the common struggles of apartment living essentially non-existent. The amenities are nothing to rave about, but they are definitely added luxuries to have around— it’s convenient to have a gym downstairs, the rooftop deck offers a nice view of the city, and there are many other amenities (pool, theater, etc.) that look to be a lot of fun but unfortunately I haven’t been able to use yet due to the pandemic. Overall, The Mill is a great place to be!

The Mill is the perfect mix of the classic old Seattle feel with new amenities. I've been living on the property for 6 months and could not be happier with my apartment. Additionally, leasing agents worked with me through a difficult move in and I couldn't be happier.

First off, the apartment is marketed as a luxury apartment but the amentities (gym, movie theatre etc) are outdated and much of the equipment doesn’t even work. The elevators constantly broke down and I had to make the trek 10+ floors up multiple times. They don’t even alert you if the elevators are down, mind you. The insulation on already overpriced units will run your electric and gas bills up. I didn’t even last a whole year there until I got sick of it all. There are many true luxury buildings near the location for the same price- would not waste your time at this one.

I just checked this place out. It has great amenities, super friendly and helpful staff and couldn't be in a better location! Love it!
Can't beat the location. Cool amenities. Helpful staff. Love it.
Great location, easy access to basically everything downtown. Awesome amenities and super friendly and accommodating staff.
I’ve been here for 6 months and have no complaints. Location is great, the apartment is the right size for the right price and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
"Chapstick on a Pig" - - Take a closer look. The drywall is falling down due to leaks in the hallways. The elevators do not work and are not repaired for months. There is no concession given to residents for the inconvenience. If you lease an apartment on a high floor, expect to take the stairs regularly. Laundry on your floor sounds like a great amenity, right? Too bad the machines break down regularly and take weeks to repair. Inside your apartment you can expect doors to fall of the hinges from regular use, window treatments to fall out of casings from regular use, dishwashers to flood your kitchen and the pungent smell of the trash chute to permeate your day-to-day because of consistent issues that go ignored by the on-site maintenance staff. Spend the extra $200 and go around the corner to the other true luxury buildings. The Mill is a joke and frankly an embarrassing place to live.
Endless construction since the new management team (Sequoia) took over. You won't need an alarm clock when you have people drilling and hammering away at the building 8:30am in preparation for window replacements. They will do this literally 3 feet from your head while you're sleeping at 8:30am. This noise goes on all day long. The renovation they did is ugly as sin. In fact, they succeeded in making the building look worse than before their renovation. Really grotesque black/blue carpeting they must have pulled from the bargain bin. They replaced our doorbells with some atrocious looking lit-up apartment number sign. The new windows are cheaper in quality than the old ones and do not open up as much. Meanwhile, the door to the garage is constantly broken and the pool is constantly dirty. Speaking of the pool: Expect people to be partying their at all hours of the night. Most of the people in this building are twenty-somethings. Petty crime is high and the lobby door is constantly propped open. I've had my mail stolen multiple times from this building. I also had to call the police about a homeless man sleeping in the stairwell. The parking fee is atrocious. $195/month. I lucked out in that my unit did not have bed bugs. I have seen posts from previous residents who were not so lucky. Comparable apartments in the area will be far nicer than this place for what that want to charge now. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig at the end of the day...
THIS PLACE WAS A HUGE MESS, ALOT OF UNHAPPY PEOPLE. THE PLACE WAS SOLD A C COUPLE MONTHS BACK. THE MANAGEMENT TEAM HERE NOW ARE AWSOME. THEY AREMORE THEN HAPPY TO ADDRESS A ISSUE ON THE SPOT. GREAT TEAM. ALOT OF GREAT INPROVEMENT ARE PLANED FOR THE BUILDING, AND THEY HAVE ALREADY STARTED. I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT YOU CHECK THEM OUT. 206 682 2288 I HAVE BEEN HERE MANY YEARS, AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I ONCE AGAIN ENJOY LIVING HERE. TELL THEM RICK SENT YOU. HAVEA GREAT LIFE
I like this apartment, because it's closed to my school, although it doesn't have microwave, and this apartment is a little bit old. But, this apartment's prices is not too high like others.
We've lived here for about a month. Enjoy the location very much (First Hill Neighborhood) - we are within walking distance to Pike Place Market, bus stops, University Station, and a plethora of shops and restaurants. The views are nice & the rooftop patio is gorgeous. The pool area is very nice as well. Mixed experiences with the office staff, but overall, so far, so good.
The apartment is only 10 minutes walk away from the heart of Seattle downtown. It has a nice swimming pool with a hot tub thatcan hold up to 20 people. The view on the rooftop is pretty amazing.
Currently the OT8 but under new management to become the Mill on First Hill. Overall, the OT8 has been a wonderful home. First Hill is a wonderful balance of the downtown life with a close 15 minute walk into the nightlife of Capitol Hill. The apartment has decent amenities with a basic gym on the first level, a simple rooftop deck with an amazing view of downtown and glimpses of Puget Sound and a beautiful pool area with a hot tub that is wonderful during the off-peak hours, but can get crowded pretty quickly. Shame that the rent in the area has been on the rise over the last couple of years and probably will be out of our price range after the few more years, it is definitely worth the price at this moment in time. In a one bedroom apartment. Pretty nice space. The building is pet friendly, which is wonderful for our dog, but wish the apartments were not carpeted. Would definitely stay here for a few more years but with the likely rent raise in the area and the even more likely rent raise with the new management, it will probably not be worth the price (for us).
So my issues with this building are all pretty minimal. Overall I think it's a good price for the area. It's safe. Good amenities. But outdated. Some of the apartments are very outdated.. Like the appliances and the sparked themselves. But the whole building is a little run down. The internet cafe is awful. The gyms equipment is outdated. The elevators are constantly breaking down. But again it does the job. But now we have new building owners and I think they're going to do a lot of work to fix up the place! So stay tuned for more reviews following the new owners to see if these things improved.
Do you like convenience and fun? Do you like pools, dogs, and being within walking distance to all of your favorite spots in town all at an affordable price? The Mill at First Hill has all of this and more. New management, 24 hour gym space, laundry on every floor. This is a great apartment complex for singles, couples, and families. Head down to the pool, or take a stroll down the street to the dog park with your puppy. There is also a rooftop with amazing views of the city of Seattle.
I have been here thru at least 5 management teams, and the current team is the worst yet. Once you sign the lease, they just don't care any more. The building is dirty, and it stinks. Any time you bring something to their attention, they get upset There are beg bugs, and dog waste thru out. STAY AWAY. MNY "SKIP OUTS"
I have lived here for years due to the location of the building. I have made it thru 5-6 management teams. The current team is the worst ever. They do not appear to have any concern once you sign the lease. All apartments have their issues, but there are 9 staff members, but only three of them care! The rest of the staff are useless!
