The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at The Carlyle
Annual rent increases are high. They are trying to close the pool. Facilities are old, outdated and not well cared for. Wallpaper and carpeting in hallways are filthy. Air conditioning is delayed in the beginning of the season and they shut it off early September. Hot water is in and out often. Recently started removing staff on overnights replaced with a call button app. 2 hour limit visitor parking is now being used by long-term visitors. Therefore other visitors are parking in tenant paid spots and staff does nothing. Staff is poorly managed. “Leasing consultants” are ill trained & rude. Asked to speak with an existing tenant before signing a lease. Apartments are big & location is good. Most of staff makes everything worse with their lack of honesty and respect towards tenants.
I recently moved out of The Carlyle to a condo I purchased. If you commute to the UWS it is a great location to commute to the GWB and A train at W 175th. While there are some opportunities for improvements at the Carlyle (tv’s not functioning, dated lobby decor) I honestly can say this building is very well run. I never felt unsafe, lobby staff is responsive and EMS/police come quickly when called. The building manager is professional. Believe me his responsiveness is NOT based on Xmas presents. The pool area is a lovely oasis, yes they do try and make the pool area enjoyable for everyone, including those who want a bit of peace and quiet. People who want to be rambunctious or are unaware that it is a community pool with some elderly tenants are respectfully asked to be aware of their neighbors. The super is quite talented in maintaining the aging structure. Newer buildings will get you thinner walls, smaller rooms, al a carte amenities and a view far inferior of those of The Carlyle’s upper floor east facing apartments. Outstanding NYC skyline view. Lastly if you don’t want to be gossiped about keep your interactions with the staff professional as opposed to sharing the intimate details of your life. It’s human nature to share interesting tidbits so be aware the staff are not all your new best friends. There is one who is prone to excessive banter but she means well, just keep it private and professional to ameliorate gossip. Keep in mind all apartment buildings have pros and cons. I give this building a thumbs up.
The Carlyle is a great looking building from the outside high floors, terrace and huge apartments, and to the people living there longer then 5 years the rent is affordable especially compared to what they charge now. BUT, please be WARNED!!!!! When you walk in the building the furniture is old and smells old. The staff is not great, there is one concierge or should I say lady who puts herself in everyone's business and tells it to all the nosy neighbors who hangs around the concierge desk. The manager who runs the building is unfriendly and reacts to complaints based on his friendship with you, or should I say the people who give the highest amount of cash in the Christmas card. (HE also tells your business) The halls are never vacuumed on a daily basis I've seen the same paper on the carpet for a week. The laundry room is very expensive, the money card machine never works, and there is always a washer or dryer out of service. They say no dogs, but I could hear and see the little Yorkie everyday (maybe passed off as a cat) The pool area is really nice, BUT please don't make any noise while swimming or allow your children to have fun while in the pool, YOU WILL BE REPORTED FOR NOISE. If there is more then 10 people in the pool you might get arrested so please go swim with a muzzle on and take the chance of dying before getting reported. Finally, I'm gone moved closer to work and thank god.
The Carlyle building is clean and modern, the area is safe and mostly quiet and the residents are mostly professionals,The current management team does an awesome job, and have gone to great lengths to strengthen the feeling of community in the building. The maintenance team do a great job, and requests are typically resolved within few fours hrs. very happy been here
Have just moved in some days back and am really liking it the way its been structured and maintained. Thanks.
