Property Ratings at The Bonneville
Overall experience: Poor, though there were some redeeming qualities, they were outweighed by ongoing management and billing issues. Pros: - Responsive Maintenance: The maintenance staff were consistently helpful, quick to respond, and did great work throughout my lease. - Clean Common Areas: The cleaning staff kept the building spotless; hallways, entryways, and shared areas were always well maintained. - Quiet Neighbors: I rarely if ever had issues with noise or disruptive neighbors. Most residents at least around me kept to themselves and were respectful. Cons: - Unprofessional Leasing Office: The lead leasing staff member, was extremely difficult to work with. She was frequently out of office, rarely returned calls or emails, and routinely avoided resolving tenant concerns. She also had a habit of inserting her personal opinions into tenant matters, rather than handling situations objectively or professionally. In my experience, she sometimes made inaccurate or unsubstantiated claims and was quick to shift blame instead of taking accountability. The other leasing staff member seemed inexperienced and was often unaware of what was going on. - Theft in Parking Area: The parking lot has a serious theft issue. My locked motorbike was stolen, and I heard similar complaints from other residents. The issue was ongoing with no meaningful improvements made. - Constant Rate Increases: Despite being a reliable tenant, I experienced frequent and significant rent and fee increases and not just on base rent, but also for parking and other add-ons. - High Monthly Charges: Expect to pay significantly more than the advertised rent. My actual monthly bill was around $400 more than the base rent once all recurring fees were included and this did not include gas or electricity. - Artificial Scarcity Tactics: Management would claim limited parking availability to justify rate increases, even though there were always empty spots. Staff would frequently double-park in an area that clearly had space available. - Frivolous Fees: There seemed to be a constant effort to tack on additional charges wherever possible, from small administrative fees to charges that felt unnecessary or excessive.
The elevator has been broken multiple times since I moved in. The management are disorganized. They made a mistake and did not charge me for pet fees and deposit when I moved in. I didn't realize it. They suddenly posted a $400 charge for it to my account without warning and gave me only a few days to pay it, right at the end of my lease. They lost the records I provided to them about my pets then accused me of violating my lease when I didn't want to provide them a second time. It's over-priced and poorly managed. I've never left a bad review for any landlord before in my life. Run!
Property Manager at The Bonneville, Responded To This Review
While we understand that you are frustrated about your move-out charges, we feel that do our best to explain all the potential move-out costs in our lease agreement. This could include any past-due balances. If you have any concerns about your final statement, please contact our office directly. Thank you in advance.
The management has been incredibly difficult to deal with. Didn’t have our apartment ready on move-in day, wouldn’t follow through on agreed price, and don’t care to fix things that are constantly broken. We’ve had 34 cars broken into this year and all they have done is put up a few cameras in the parking garage that should’ve been there in the first place. This place just wants your money!!!
Horrible experience. Lots of noise with zero soundproofing. Management has a bad attitude and acts easily inconvenienced when you ask them to do basic functions of their job.
It is true that they will nickel and dime you to death. It's a relatively new building and there's always something broken -- fire alarm system, elevator, electrical, etc.
This community is very unsafe, check the SLC police logs for yourself.... There have been multiple shootings resulting in a death across the street and on the property. Also a SWAT team had to take down a resident making threats to other residents. Way too overpriced for this/ what you get. There's a required media package even if you don't watch tv, you need a rentable storage closet bc the apt doesn't have a utility closet, and you pay heating and electric for leasing offices, gym, community spaces (=$80 more a month on top of your own utilities). And management doesn't provide any extra perks you see at other communities like regular happy hours or yoga classes. I know many people who have said they feel afraid for their lives living here, some have broken their lease and left. Only time we've seen the security patrol is when they're telling residents to leave the community room or hot tub at 9:58pm, you don't see them when the cars are getting broken into for the 3rd time in 2 months or when an intruder sets a fire on the 6th floor. Residents weren't even notified about the fire because they were too busy "handling it". The first we heard about it was when they sent an email the next day to blame the residents. Working with your residents to create a safe, fun place to live is not a novel concept- there are many other apt complexes that provide this!
Renter beware. This place is not what it seems. The rent is to high for substandard conditions and they will nickel and dime you to death.
