Moon Township
Located about 16 miles northwest of Downtown Pittsburgh, Moon Township is a scenic suburb brimming with historic charm along the Ohio River. Moon Township, simply referred to as “Moon,” is draped in lush natural beauty, with tree-lined boulevards and expansive parks strewn throughout the community. Among Moon’s many popular destinations for outdoor recreation are Moon Park, Robin Hill Park, and nearby Raccoon Creek State Park. Moon offers plenty of suburban amenities as well, including the convenient shops and restaurants on University Boulevard in addition to the many brand-name retailers at nearby Robinson Town Centre and the Mall at Robinson. Moon is home to Robert Morris University, making it a popular choice for many students, faculty, and staff. The community is also revered for its excellent public schools as well as its close proximity to all that Pittsburgh has to offer. Moon contains the Pittsburgh International Airport, affording numerous residents easy travels.
Oakdale
A quiet reprieve from big city living, Oakdale is a charming suburb about 15 miles west of Downtown Pittsburgh, and just 11 miles south of the Pittsburgh International Airport. Though Oakdale offers a sense of seclusion from urban amenities, it has great proximity to one of Pennsylvania’s grandest metropolises and its many attractions, including Station Square, Point State Park, and PNC Park. Oakdale is lined with single-family homes, grassy lots, and walkable streets. Families enjoy access to numerous ball fields, playgrounds, and parks such as Oakdale Neighborhood Playground and Oakdale Community Park. Though Oakdale is mainly residential, there are a few hidden gems in town. Grab a bite to eat at The Diner, a local spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Afterwards, order a craft brew at Helicon Brewing on Union Avenue!
Pittsburgh
National publications constantly place Pittsburgh near the top of the list for most livable cities in America, and it’s easy to see why. The city has a rich history as an industrial and economic hub, which led to the construction of many grand buildings and public sculptures which still stand today. Downtown in particular is rich with beautifully preserved buildings and lush public parks dating back well over a century, giving the entire community a timeless atmosphere. Pittsburgh is split into three sections by the rivers passing through the city: Downtown (a.k.a. “The Golden Triangle), the North Side, and the South Side. Each has its fair share of attractions and landmarks: the North Side is home to Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park (making it a perfect area for sports fans), the South Side features big, beautiful greenways and refurbished steel mills, and Downtown is where you’ll find the most variety in dining, nightlife, and entertainment. The Golden triangle area is also a popular area for college students to seek apartments, with Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh all within close proximity in this section of town.
