If you haven’t been to South Laurel yet, imagine a hilly, wooded community with attractive houses and peaceful roads. Together with its manicured lawns and shady sidewalks, you might think this is a suburban neighborhood. Well, sort of – it is, after all, only 18 miles from DC -- but there’s much more to South Laurel. For one, the Patuxent Research Refuge is its backyard.
The vast Patuxent Research Refuge covers nearly 13,000 acres of land. It was established in 1936 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to support wildlife research – the only one established for such a purpose. The refuge is ideal for birdwatching, hiking, and fishing. For those who prefer shopping to hiking, Baltimore Avenue is home to Towne Centre at Laurel, a large shopping plaza with a movie theater and several restaurants. Head into Downtown Laurel to visit the shops and restaurants along Main Street.

This apartment complex is going down hill year after year. The staff just doesn’t respond, the walls are thin, a lot of break ins and I just can tell there’s no care for the community by the rental office. Do not recommend.

I like the area and enjoy my apartment there are a few things I am unsatisfied with like communicating with maintenance can be frustrating at times. Sometimes getting in contact with staff can be difficult but I will say they are always nice and polite.

I Love everything so far, everything except the parking situation is a mess. I feel like parking should be set for a certain time and not all day. having company is stressful because of parking.

Much improvement is needed for the fee of $15 for trash removal. Trash is always outside the dumpster in the street. Send notice to residents to deposit TRASH inside the dumpster.

After living here a few months, it’s actually a nice place to live. The building is quiet and the area is well kept. They’ve recently been having different community activities which seems nice and have been updating the property.

Nothing super luxury, it gets the job done but could use improvements. Lots of construction and upgrades are happening on the exterior but no interior.

I have lived here for close to 6 years. The first 2 years were great but went downhill after that. Sometimes it can get bad with the roaches and other times I can go a few months without seeing one. The roach problem could reduced if the vendor did a good job, but they spray insecticide every which way except for the places they are supposed to. The floors are uneven and its a problem for me with cooking, furniture placement, and literal dips that make me trip. They use cheap vendors to do all their "updates" and constructions who rush and sloppily do their work which consistently goes unchecked. Latest example, my balcony was updated and the wood has spaces in between them in some areas so I can now see my below neighbor's balcony but in other areas, the wood is closed. I am freaked out that something will drop on theirs and it's not a matter of IF but WHEN. Cheap vendors, sloppy work, no checks and balances, can't forget the roaches and others unmentioned gives them 2 stars.

Overall, we have had a good experience. However, the buildings are noisy and some residents are extremely inconsiderate of others’ peace and quiet. Additionally, there are definitely some things that could be improved/updated inside the apartments. On the flip side, Parke Laurel does a great job with upkeep outside of the buildings.

I like my apartment but some of the appliances are not working and when maintenance is called they don’t do anything. Now that it’s summer my apartment gets really hot despiste the ac being on.

Maintenance is great. Noise is a problem; quiet hours are not enforced at all and I have heard my neighbors having many fights on many occasions and have had to call the police for domestic violence.

Overall experience has been solid. The management team is very responsive for the most part and honestly seem to care about the residents. The grounds are fairly well maintained and kept. One drawback I would say is the communication disconnect when it comes to the maintenance team. They do their job as assigned but sometimes you need to express an issue with them while they’re there and you can hit a barrier if you don’t have the proper dialect. The walls are a little thin and you can generally hear your neighbors even without them being noisy. Luckily the neighborhood seems to be a good group of people just trying to live

It’s okay living here however, they get you real good with a bunch of fees, which bumps your base rent an extra $100 . Another thing is the floors are thin and you can hear tenants participating in mad activities at 3 in the morning and it’s sad on most nights.

Counting down the days for our lease to be up. I’ve month after moving in we have a neighbor who leaves their TV on so loud you can’t sleep in the master bedroom. They have done nothing about it. Heat doesn’t get back to two of the three bedrooms. Still unresolved, yet the gas bill jumps up month to month despite leaving the heat low and sometimes completely off (since it doesn’t work anyway.). Run from this place. Management seems amazing in the onboard process then abandons you.

Pros: Apartment are big with lots of closet space. Grounds are kept nice. Large pool. Pets allowed. Small enclosed doggy area. Close to lots of shops. Maintenance requests completed pretty quickly. Most Staff is friendly. Cons: walls are very thin & some neighbors are very loud. Noise complaints are intermittently addressed. Workout room not really available. Pool hours are very limited. I would not move here. I have had problem after problem after problems. And honestly only still here because I do not have the time to deal with the hassle of moving but soon as I finish school, I’m out. Communication is horrible and the people who move in do not care about their community. I know the rental office can’t tell this when approving a resident but the rental office does a horrible job of enforcing things and that’s why this community is horrible. I honestly really hate it here! If it’s not a maintenance issue, it’s a neighbor issue. Oh and the walls are paper thin, you can hear people sneeze. Stay away!

It has been okay living here, no complaints, no worries. It is Pretty quiet for the most part. It is Very affordable. The distance is close to a major highway.

I absolutely enjoy living in at Parke Laurel wonderful place and neighborhood is well kept up. There has been a few different leasing professional but all have been very friendly, kind and helped me always all through my move in and living on property. Management has taken my concerns into consideration whenever I've reported noise complaints/ issues. Maintenance team knocks down any maintenance requests I submit. I would strongly recommend this place to rent.

Upfront Parke Laurel seems like a good place to live. The staff are pretty responsive when you are a prospective resident. As an actual resident they are not as easy to reach so I walk into the office when I have time. Maintenance can take a while, think weeks instead of days, and there are jobs that are still incomplete from when I moved in. I wish I had read the reviews before signing the lease instead of going off gut feeling. Definitely tour the actual apartment before picking a move in date or signing the lease and ask about policies. I have been disappointed and will be moving out as soon as possible.

Great apartments! I enjoy how clean the area is. I will say some of the repair jobs within the apartment aren’t great but I can’t complain. The office workers are nice.

Maintenance is awesome!!! That's all I can say. The grounds are kept nicely. The hallways are kept clean it would be better if the rental office would open on time

Management takes a long time to respond to request. A lot of the appliances have issues and look like they were not properly tended to…………..

Awful experience living here. Leasing office staff makes false promises and straight up lies, maintenance staff half fixes everything. They are too comfortable moving families into dirty, soiled and unkept apartments. Unclean hallways and stairs, very noisy neighbors due to poor flooring and thin walls. Uncontrolled roach infestation for going on 6 months( probably much much longer).
This is nice community and the staffs are very professional and very helpful .it’s really safe raising your kids . If you are looking place to leave

So far I love the apartments. Stays clean. For the most part it's quiet. Everyone is very friendly and nice. The staff is very helpful. The parking situation is my only complaint.

It's been good so far just wish they offered 2 year leases instead of just one. Really wish the rent didn't go up every year however it's manageable. Love the quietness of the community along with the people inside.

Way too many issues in this apartment that should have been handled before we moved in and still aren’t. The neighbors are great! Maintenance guys are also great.

For a long time, the maintenance department was the saving grace of this place. I've had problems with the leasing office (especially when I first moved in), you need to call about every day to get anything done. I've had problems with the availability and cleanliness of the complex amenities (pool, gym, dog park). Noise is becoming a huge issue and there is no way to address it after hours. There is also increasing need for police presence with car break ins, domestic situations, mental health crises of residents, and the noise. I have been asking repeatedly if there could be an after hours security person to address these issues before it rises to the level of law enforcement but nothing has happened. I've had a lot of things break in my apartment, so I have had a lot of interactions with maintenance. And for a long time, they were the saving grace. However, recently I had a really bad interaction where it took over a month for something fairly basic and used everyday to get fixed.

I have a roach problem that has prevented me from using my kitchen for two months. Two roof leaks in the same spot in six months. Caught a mouse this week. Pot smoking neighbors who play loud music at all hours of the day and night. Too many unanswered emails to management.

Great customer service! The property and neighborhood is nice and quiet. We’ll maintain and clean. Met some of my neighbors and they were nice. Just some overdue maintenance but eventually it got done after a couple of calls.
