Development on the Sandalwood neighborhood began in the spring of 1960. Designed to provide inhabitants with the ideal balance of work and play, Sandalwood sits approximately half way between Jacksonville city center and its nearest beach, which lies roughly six miles east of the neighborhood.
Developer Pearce-Uible's primary Sandalwood concept contained 500 houses. To give the neighborhood an exotic ambiance, Sandalwood's original streets were all named after Pacific Islands. Mindanao Drive, Hawaii Drive East, and Kusai Drive are three of those original roadways. Two more streets, Majuro Drive and Luana Drive, were added to the neighborhood in 1969.
Nearly half the houses in the modern Sandalwood neighborhood are quite new. The original 1960s properties reside in the northern half of the area, whereas newer houses extend to the southern part of the neighborhood. Several educational establishments call the area home, including Sandalwood High School, established in 1971.

With every place you live you will have ups and downs, North Beach has been a place I have called “home” for 3 years, I met my husband here, I did my wedding photos in north beach property and I announced my pregnancy here, I have gotten through deployments and underways with my husband being in the military, and I will say I never had to worry about my safety in North Beach on Kernan hands down. My kiddos learned to swim in the pool on those long hot summer days, the memories here will last forever. I would recommend North Beach to anyone especially a military member or family as we are close to base but far enough to get to enjoy Jax. Stop in and see the ladies of North Beach in the office to help you out Mrs. Lysa will take extrodinary care of you
Love this neighborhood, the area is great. Middle of town and you have everything accessible. Such a spacious area as well. Can’t speak for the other units but the 2 bd 2 bh looks just like the photos online. I moved from the west coast and not seeing this place beforehand had me a little worried but we arrived and got to work with Lysa on signing our papers and welcomed us home. She was so happy to show us around, really glad we got to meet her.

From the initial tour, through the application process, move-in and beyond I have had nothing but positive experiences at North Beach on Kernan. Laura and Samantha in the office were phenomenal. they answered my long list of questions professionally and based on their deep knowledge of the property. I am only 5'2? tall and it was absolutely no problem for Tony from Maintenance to drop by to lower my kitchen cabinet shelves for me to make them more accessible.The unit was so clean you couldn't tell anyone else had ever lived in it. I have been here a week and have yet to hear any noise from my adjoining neighbor, who has two younger sons, nor from the apartment above me. The grounds team are constantly keeping the property perfect. 10/10 recommend!

We used to love living here- the community, the environment, the office/maintenance staff, etc. but as soon as the office staff all changed up our experience has gone wayyyyy down. There is constantly construction and issues with the property, the pool and gym and are always closed. The office staff does not do any more events like they did before. The front gate which is supposed to be closed for our safety is always open which has led to things being stolen around the area. We used to have a food truck here every Wednesday and now we’re lucky if it comes once a month/two months. Just the lack of care for the residents has gone down in my opinion.

We'd also like to reassure you that resident engagement continues to be a top priority for us. We still host monthly resident events and truly enjoy planning them. If there's a specific event you loved in the past that you'd like to see return, please don't hesitate to let us know- we'd love to bring it back into the mix if possible! Regarding the food trucks, we hear your disappointment. Due to low turnout, we unfortunately had to scale back, but we are doing everything we can to continue offering them at least twice a month. Lastly, your safety and peace of mind are important to us. We're actively working with our gate service provider to install new gates to ensure they operate properly and securely. We encourage all residents to report any suspicious activity so we can address it immediately. We appreciate you being a part of our community and hope we can continue to improve your experience.
It is a quiet area, but with all the construction it has really been unsettling to enjoy the view and pond area. Requests are answered in a timely manner.

Amongst the feral cat colonies, meaning multiple.. the trash area is ALWAYS full to the brim & so disgusting because of how unkept it is. There is also an abundance of spiders & roaches throughout the complex, as well as dog poop that’s never picked up. Can’t wait to leave!!!

We regularly work with animal control to assist in the removal of the few cats on property and acknowledge there was a compactor issue about two months ago, which we resolved quickly. We share your frustration when residents do not follow community protocols, such as feeding stray animals, failing to pick up after pets, or improperly disposing of trash. To address this, fines have been implemented and regular maintenance schedules are in place to minimize the impact on residents. However, we do rely on residents to assist in notifying us when they notice an area of concern, so we may quickly address it.
My fiancé and I just moved in recently and so far the experience has been great. The apartment itself has no issues and all of the staff we’ve encountered has been extremely helpful, especially Lysa!

We had a great experience with North Beach on Kernan. The location is close to everywhere we need to be. Their monthly events are outstanding with food, drinks and an engaged staff who come to them and even played games with us which blew my mind. I walk my dog every morning and Tanner who I havent seen in a month but just saw him back yesterday which made my heart so happy, always says good morning and asks how my day is. For someone who works from home and doesn't get to have much interaction with folks this makes my day. Any concern or issue I have ever raised he makes sure he gets it fixed and always makes sure he closes the loop for me on any concerns I have raised. I have had others fix my things and eventually they break again but Tanner has always made sure it's done right the first time. Thankful him and this incredible complex!

The community is great, quiet and clean for the most parts. Few times, I saw dog droppings outside and cigarette butts. Also, another area is needed for trash disposal. Overall, it is a good place to live.

My favorite thing about living at North Beach on Kernan is its location. We can get to the Florida Theatre, Jumbo Shrimp games, Everbank, St. John's Town Center, and the beach all within 20 minutes. St. Augustine is an easy 50-minute drive south. Grocery stores, the library, plenty of restaurants, and even a couple of hospitals are all just minutes away. It's been a great three months here so far!

My first year at North Beach on Kernan was great, but this second year has been rough. I’m honestly counting down the days of my lease. The noise above me is almost unbearable. I can’t wait to move out. Also, they claim to be a gated community, however, the gate is always broken. Since living here, there have been multiple break-in’s of cars and packages stolen from resident’s doorsteps. Maintenance is great, though. They work extremely hard and have always been super helpful and timely in their responses.

I love this community. My only issue is the people that live above me. It sounds like someone is running a 24 hr marathon some days. It's just constant running & bumping across the floor above me!! But other than that the community is clean, well maintained and staff is always friendly and helpful!! I like that they have monthly events so it's a good opportunity to get to know other people. Amenities are also nice and clean. Also there are walking trails on the property.

The office staff and maintenance staff are quick to respond, friendly and helpful. Swimming pool and fitness center are lovely. Location in town is excellent .

I've lived in a few other complexes in my life, and this by far, is the best one. It's very well taken care of, they are constantly making improvements and keep the property up. The maintenance team is super friendly and very responsive. The apartments are comfortable and spacious. My dog enjoys the park and walking around, and I love to see different types of birds at the pond. Everything is clean and people are nice! I like that they bring in food trucks and are offering more community events.

I've been living in this apartment for one year and it's been a wonderful experience. The apartment rooms and appliances provided is fantastic. The maintenance team is quick and efficient, and the pool is always clean. I love the cafeteria area especially hot chocolate. The only downside i feel is lack of events, perhaps organising more community events, like game nights or potlucks or any other activities where we can get a chance to meet other society members would be appreciated. Overall I love this apartment and society and I also highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to live."

Good place good location Parking problem some times Drive ways little bit tight other then that is ok need to be fix couple thinks at the house and garage but looks like getting there slow by slow

Once maintenance completed our move in requests, were very happy with our space. Our dogs love the dog park and the lake loop. This is also a much better location than our last spot, so close to the beach!

I really love it here. Apartment is very nice and my only complaint is someone is smoking near me. I continually smell smoke and management has addressed it several times but it seems to continue.

This is a nice community. The pool area is nice. The maintenance crew is very responsive to any issues. The office staff is very friendly. The units are nice sized. Overhead noise is sometimes very unpleasant. Renovations are currently underway in some units which look very nice. The shrubbery is tired and in need of attention and replacement.

Love the community. I have been here almost a year and it is time for me to renew my lease and I am definitely renewing, I have already done so. The maintenance is great, when you put it in a request it is handled in a timely manor, just love Royce, he is always so nice to me. My one wish is to have a another handicap parking spot. Some time it is a little hard to park and I have trouble walking. Other than the parking, I love it here.
