The small neighborhood of Fort Totten creates a peaceful, suburban-like oasis within Northeast Washington, D.C. Despite the neighborhood's suburban feel, you can reach downtown DC and the Maryland communities of Silver Spring and Takoma Park in just minutes from this area.
Primarily residential, the neighborhood prides itself on being tight-knit and family-friendly, with many residents having lived in their homes for several decades. Fort Totten's wealth of green space and canopy of mature trees add to the charm of the neighborhood’s distinctive homes, which range from Victorians, Tudors, and bungalows to semi-attached brick row houses.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at New Hampshire & First Apartments
This is a old building so I've experienced it all here. Bedbugs within the first month (left over from previous tenant. Apparently bedbugs can survive 100days without a host. This is per the exterminators btw!). Per neighbors who have been here for years, the whole building is infested with them. So I moved right into that. Then roaches came and that was oh so fun to deal with as well . After monthhhsssss I finally got rid of the roaches. But I am ready to leave cause the low price I pay isn't not worth the stress of bug bites and roaches crawling all over my kitchen .
Property Manager at New Hampshire & First Apartments, Responded To This Review
Management has determined that this is not a legitimate review of the New Hampshire & First Apartments. Management was alarmed by this review because we have a contract with Owl Pest Control, one of the leading pest management companies in the Washington area, to ensure that our properties are pest and rodent free. Owl Pest Control treats our community weekly on a preventative basis, and as needed on the occasion that a pest or rodent incident may arise, as is unavoidable in an urban setting. Our residents know that they can call the leasing office to report an extermination issue and that our team at Owl Pest Control will respond within 24 hours. In fact, it is a violation of our lease agreement for a resident to fail to report such an issue, so as to avoid any serious infestation issues.
I've been living in New Hampshire and First apartments for close to 6 months. The buildings are kept clean and well maintained. It's close to Fort Totten subway, and can get to downtown quickly. Laundry is located in the basement. And occasional they have events like movie night at Halloween. The property manager responds to all issue in a quick timely manner.
This is a great place for small, single families that desire convenience. I don't own a vehicle which works out perfectly fine because this property is conveniently located near public transportation (Metro bus/rail), a convenience market, cleaners, laundromat and pharmacy. Yep, you read all that right! What more could you ask for?
