Starting along the Colorado River across from Downtown Austin
and extending westward to Falconhead West Primitive Park, Bee Cave/River Hills
is a large community that follows Highway 71 and includes several parks and natural areas, including the Falconhead Golf Club, Bee Cave Sculpture Park, and the City of Bee Cave Central Park. It includes the popular shopping destination Hill Country Galleria, home to a Whole Foods Market, a movie theater, and shops like Dillard’s, Banana Republic, and Chico’s.
Bee Cave didn’t become a city until 1987, but its history dates back to the early 1800s when settlers looking to escape the ever-expanding population of Austin as it climbed to 900 residents moved across the river in search of farmland. They discovered Barton Creek – and the colonies of honey bees that populated the caves along the creek. They named their community in honor of these early residents.
There’s plenty to do in Bee Cave/River Hills, from exploring the artwork at Bee Cave Sculpture Park to hiking through the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve. The Austin Zoo is just south of the area, and Downtown Austin is 15 miles from the city of Bee Cave. People from all over come to shop at the Galleria and go horseback riding, hiking, and swimming at Reimers Ranch Park. When you rent an apartment in Bee Cave/River Hills, you get both the fun and excitement of Austin and the rural beauty of natural Texas.
