America's second-oldest college, William & Mary, is a highly-respected, public research university that is considered one of the nation's eight "Public Ivy" universities. The College of William & Mary was established in 1693 and its alumni are impressive -- three US Presidents are among its graduates including Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. Since sixteen members of the Continental Congress and four signers of the Declaration of Independence were also graduates of W&M, the school is sometimes referred to as the "Alma Mater of the Nation."
Not only prestigious, top-ranking, and historic, W&M is also beautiful -- it is frequently noted as one of the most beautiful college campuses in America. W&M is located in the equally beautiful and historic Williamsburg dates back to the 1630s and even served as the Capital of Virginia in 1698. Colonial Williamsburg, a fascinating living history museum with structures dating back to the 1660s, is adjacent to W&M. On campus, the Wren Building is the nation's oldest academic building, dating back to 1695. The first floor is maintained as part of the Colonial Williamsburg exhibition.
