Officially incorporated on January 2, 1932, Miami Shores Village took its name from its position along the shores of Biscayne Bay. The charter was brought to the state legislature under the leadership of Roy H. Hawkins, and the first council included a banker, an insurance professional, a cigar company president, a dentist, and a fifth community member.
