Jonesboro, a small city of less than 5,000 residents, is located about 20 minutes south of downtown Atlanta. The city is filled with fantastic neighborhoods, so finding an apartment that fits your needs should be relatively simple. One of Jonesboro's top communities is the Lake Spivey area. Lake Spivey offers convenient access to major roads, and there is an 18-hole golf course, gorgeous natural lake and a quiet residential community.

Many retail centers with highly familiar stores are close to the Lake Spivey area.Clayton County International Park, located right off of Highway 138 in Jonesboro, was originally built to accommodate some of the competitions during the 1996 Olympic Games; and it was also used to film some scenes in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The Clayton County International Park features a beach area, a six-acre lake, a 17-court tennis center, walking trails, and a pavilion for group picnics. Other parks in the Jonesboro include Battleground Park, located off Jodeco Road, and Massengale Park, located at the corner of Williamson Mill Road and Haines Street.

Jonesboro is the site where one of the major, decisive Civil War battles took place (it was called the Battle of Jonesborough). Thus, much of downtown Jonesboro and the Jonesboro Historic District offers historical sites and museums which point toward the city's rich and storied history. One example is the 1867 Train Depot, located off Main Street, a well-preserved building which now serves as the city's welcome center. The 1867 Train Depot also serves as the Road to Tara Museum, housing many artifacts, including costumes worn by Gone with the Wind actresses Hattie McDaniel (who played Mammy) and Ann Rutherford (who played Careen O’Hara).

Stately Oaks, located off Jodeco Road, was a major landmark used by both northern and southern troops during the Civil War. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open for both tours and special events. The city of Jonesboro is the setting for the fictitional Tara Plantation featured in Margaret Mitchell's classic Gone With The Wind. Mitchell is said to have conducted extensive research in preparation for writing the book at the 1898 Courthouse, located off of South McDonough Street.
