Beginning along Fordham Boulevard and extending west toward Eastwood Lake, University Place is the location of its namesake mall. As Chapel Hill's only indoor mall, University Place is considered the region's premier shopping destination. In addition to its shops, restaurants, and movie theater, special events -- including the Chapel Hill Farmers Market -- are held at University Place. Kidzu Children's Museum is located inside the mall. Another large shopping plaza, the East Gate Shopping Center, provides more shops, restaurants, and a Whole Foods Market.
At the south end of the neighborhood, Community Park hosts a community center and access to two hiking trails: Battle Branch Trail and Bolin Creek Trail. The park also offers a playground, a pavilion, picnic areas, a basketball court, and a community rose garden. Of course, University Place also reflects its location to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, located about two miles south of University Place.

The location is convenient because it’s close to everything, but that’s where the positives end. The maintenance is unreliable, nothing gets done when requested, and the property is not kept clean. For the price being charged, the level of service and upkeep is very disappointing.

It is a pleasant experience living in a community where we are able to interact with the other people who live here here as we share the the activity spaces in an area that is lovely in all seasons. It is also very important to be so close to stores and offices that we need.

Sunstone is an excellent place for anyone seeking easy, quick access to anywhere in Chapel Hill and Durham! The complex is quiet and safe, but unfortunately, the apartments are overpriced for their small size, outdated features, uneven foundations, and the cost of amenities like trash pickup, which is not valet, yet you still pay for it. Overall, great location and safe, but lackluster apartments.

The community is so near to a variety of places necessary to a comfortable life. It is also a pleasant place to walk through at all times of the year, enjoying the variety of the plants, shrubs, and trees and the ability to greet neighbors. It is wonderful to be able to use the pool, basketball and volleyball courts. And very special are the employees who are so available and personable to speak with.

I will say, you can't beat the floorplan. It is a nice layout. Why I'm moving out though if that it took 2 months for me to be believed I didn't have consistent running water and then another month and a half for it to be fixed. And that was after all that was being done about the big roach nest under my apartment was spraying the walls. I don't understand why the nest wasn't sought out and why that unit was immediately rented after I moved out instead. What finally is the nail in the coffin is that there is some episode in this apartment every two to three weeks. This time was stepping on a glass shard. January was no water AND my balcony locked me out in 26F weather. Some appliances get fixed pretty quickly and the maintenance team is very kind, but it's stressful having it always be something.

It is extremely helpful that Sunstone is located in walking distance of grocery stores, eye doctors, dentists, and Eastgate Mall. It is also a community where we can walk and meet other residents who share their waves and smiles, and comments.

In my time at Sunstone, I have lived at 2 apartments, one with a terrible and uncontrollable and preexisting cockroach infestation, one without consistent access to running water. The management team is very nice but lacks the ability to fix the root problem.

The site is so close to important places I need to visit and I can walk to: grocery stores, drug stores, eye doctor, dentist and the Chapel Hill Public Library. It has a delightful outdoor space for all seasons. It also gives opportunities for residents to interact as we pass each other. It is also important that the people who work here are congenial, helpful, and always available.

Well-maintained property and honestly the best maintenance service team I've ever had. My only complaint is that I wish they'd let me do a longer lease. The continually increasing rent is getting rough.

The Management Team are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The Maintenance Team is talented, knowledgeable, and friendly. My apartment was recently updated with new appliances, I live the design and layout of the bedrooms, and the location is ideal.

Overall, I was satisfied with my experience at Sunstone apartments. It's a quiet environment where no one disturbs you. The neighbors are basically UNC/Duke/RTP students or staff. the outdoor area is cleaned regularly by community staff. the rent is reasonably priced and the office staff are very friendly and helpful. all in all staying here is worth it, great value for money, I love it and have already recommended it to my classmates!

By far the worst apartment I have ever lived in. Apartments are old, dirty and falling apart. Maintenance is often non-responsive and they do not truly fix issues that arise. Management company is also poor -- it has been two months since I moved out and I have still not received my security deposit. Overall, this apartment complex is a disaster and should be avoided at all costs.

We applied and paid our deposit for an apartment we were told was available. I emailed the staff to discuss a discrepancy in our move-in bill about a month and a half after applying, being told we were approved, paying our deposit, and getting the confirmation the apartment was ours. The response to the email was that our application had been cancelled and the apartment we wanted was no longer available. No warning, no phone calls, no anything. What would have happened if we had shown up to move in? We still have yet to receive any refund or even an apology. Stay far, far, far away from this place.
The model is light and bright, but the actual bait and switch apartment's are dark , dated and drafty. You become close with your neighbors when you hear all their fights through the paper thin walls and squeaky celling. And the bugs..so many roaches and bugs...no matter how frequently they treat. The location is a plus.

Soooo bad apartment! Location is good but other than that, everything else is horrible. So dirty? even renovated ones are only for look, inside is dirty, molded. 4 star is misleading. You have to read other reviews. This aprtment seems to be mostly for visiting chinese scholars who want to walk to grocery. You can find much bettter managed apartment. Maintenance team always promise but it takes soooooo long to get it done and its result is very poor. Anyway they just want our money but not care about our life quality. Be careful!
