The trendy neighborhood of Shaw is fast becoming one of Washington, DC’s top neighborhoods. The neighborhood is the birthplace of jazz legend Duke Ellington, and the bars and nightclubs played host to names like Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Marvin Gaye, and Pearl Bailey. The iconic Howard Theatre still draws some of the biggest names in music.
Shaw apartments are plentiful and living here provides easy access to some of DC’s top restaurants, such as Table, Habesha, Bistro Bohem, and Azi’s Café. Shaw borders Logan Circle, another of DC’s top neighborhoods, and it is directly south of Howard University. Shaw is a very pedestrian-friendly neighborhood with easy access to two Metro stations. It is home to some of DC’s trendiest boutiques, art galleries, and markets. The increased popularity of Shaw and the high demand for housing has led to an interesting blend of historic rowhouses and sleek, modern apartment towers.

Location is great however it can be quite noisy at times. The building is a bit dated but well maintained and staff is kind. The cost of rent is high

Overall, the community and our space are solid. Building management suffers in their ability to communicate and respond to questions or requests. The only time they actively communicate is when your lease is coming up for renewal. The maintenance staff was always a silver lining. However, the maintenance staff seemed to have disappeared as of late, and work requests were not addressed in any sense in a timely fashion.

Community overall is good. Maintenance request system needs serious work improving. From communication, to timeliness, to being more respectful of our living spaces - certain areas relating to maintenance should be improved

No issues at the moment entirely happy I get along with my neighbors and issues with service tickets but only one issue that doggie park some residents don't scoop after there dogs so I think that management should put up a notice to scoop after pooping because it's not good for other dogs to sniff

Great amenities and the staff is friendly. However, the walls are pretty thin so you’ll hear your noisy neighbors. The gym is nice to use and the pool is awesome during the summer. Overall, it’s a decent experience for apartment living in an average neighborhood.

I have had a decent experience living in the building except for few rude fellow tenants. The amenities such as elevators are broken sometimes or not functioning but the apartment fixes it over time. The package system is unreliable though.

Overall great building and staff, units are spacious and updated. Amenities are wonderful, and most of the residetns are super friendly, hard-working young professionals. Unfortunately I live next to a woman who lives here in a reduced rent apartment who yells at her kids all day everyday and we hear everything. She has no respect for anyone else in the community. The things that come out of her mouth are so unbelievable to the point where we've considered making calls on her in concerns for the children. I have consistent documentation of her being a nuisance and will be bringing it to management's attention soon because she makes living here less than desirable.

This place is great for first time apartment owners! The only complaint I would have is the timeliness of maintenance on appliances, but I know they are super busy! Overall, a great place to live!

The location and apartments are nice enough. However all fixtures and appliances are extremely dated. I've raised multiple appliance/fixture issues with management, and they consistently fail to respond. Maintenance takes days, weeks, and even months to address any issues. There are better buildings in the area.

For a building that's only 10 years old, Jefferson Marketplace could be A LOT nicer. The upkeep of apartments between leases is abysmal. It feels like I always have a service request in for yet another thing that's broken

Elevators frequently broken. People park in your assigned spot and never get towed. No enforcement of no smoking policy. Would recommend looking elsewhere if possible.

Love living in the marketplace! The only complaint is that the building was very unclear about pool renovations and does not provide nearly enough chairs for its residents.
It is a good apartment—some units are far overpriced. It is not as nice as some other apartments in DC, but if you can get a good deal, it is a decent neighborhood with a great maintenance staff. Amenities are apparently improving, but I haven't seen much movement there.
I think Mrs. Wilson the leasing manager made my transition to Jefferson Marketplace stress free and smooth. I cannot thank her enough for making a tough transition easy.
Just moved in and the apartment is very nice. Great amenity spaces and a convenient location in the Shaw area. Super close to giant and dacha.

It is a good apartment—some units are far overpriced. It is not as nice as some other apartments in DC, but if you can get a good deal, it is a good neighborhood with a friendly staff.

Building has good features and the location is great, noise control could be better at nights and the package handling is not great since they have a service but not available.
I love living here I wouldn't leave here for nothing in the world I've never had any issues living here in the community I'm a very friendly person and talk to anyone

This building is in a wonderful location. There are some issues with shared amenities being broken, but when things are working properly, like the fire pit, it's amazing.

It is a great location, and my unit is excellent. The maintenance staff is phenomenal. Outside of that, there is nothing to write home about. I feel I am inconveniencing the front desk when asking for packages. The leasing office is only responsive when it is time to renew your lease, and the building hasn't had three elevators that have been consistently working for over six months which has yet to be communicated about at all.

I moved into the building in September and have loved every day here. Everyone I meet is kind, social, and the community feels very tight knit. I will definitely stay here and renew my lease when it's time!

The apartment size is great. The kitchen cabinet configuration is awful! Cabinets are narrow and deep. Makes it hard to fit anything. Disappointed in the condition of my apartment upon move in; definitely barely cleaned and I had to clean it again myself. Dust, crumbs, fingerprints on all surfaces, paint splatter all over the floor. Only one lady at the concierge’s desk is actually nice. The other ones get so annoyed when you ask them simple question. Wouldn’t really recommend this place, but it serves its purpose.

This a great apartment building for a lower price-point and more space than a lot of the luxury buildings in the area. Every apartment has incredible light and it is in a great part of the city!

I have lived here for one year and Jefferson Marketplace is overall a great place to live. The building management and staff strive to create a real community here. The units are very spacious with nice sized kitchens. The gym, dog park, and two rooftops are my favorite amenities. The gym was recently renovated and the rooftop is scheduled to have improvements in the next year or so. However, I wish the rooftop improvements would have been done sooner though. Also, I wish the building prioritized a few things in the units like scheduled lint filter cleaning for dryers, better bathroom maintenance upon each moveout, plus the walls in our washer/dryer closet are warping from the moister and likely have water damage. This has not been addressed and has likely happening over the course of multiple tenants/years.

The JMP community is amazing. Everyone - from residents to staff to management /m- is really friendly. Staff and management are also really responsive and take the time to answer any questions. The building is nice and the amenities are great and being updated.
I love the bark park, as well as the gym, rooftop pool, grills, etc. the front desk workers are always kind and helpful, and the other residents are lovely

It’s been good living here for the past couple years, amenities are nice to have, issues are typically fixed quickly. There have been some issues with crime in the area, specifically on 7th, lately but the neighborhood overall is great and has good restaurants, green space, etc.
This is a wonderful building to live in! Angie and Beatrice were so helpful during the leasing and move in.
