Apartments.com has introduced a new community rating score based exclusively on resident feedback. The new score, which replaces the blended rating shown previously, offers renters greater transparency into the resident experience. It also provides multifamily owners and operators with greater ability to manage their online reputation.

“Ratings and reviews are one of the top ways renters choose an apartment community,” said Stuart Richens, vice president of product for Apartments.com. “This update gives renters a clear view of the experience what it’s like to live at the community.”

More than 97 percent of renters say online ratings and reviews influence their apartment search decisions, according to the latest Apartments.com renter survey.

Previously, ratings on Apartments.com reflected a combination of resident reviews and CoStar building ratings. Under the updated system, listings now display a score derived solely from resident reviews.

The updated ratings system allows renters to compare apartment communities exclusively based on resident feedback. With this standalone rating, property owners and operators can also exercise greater influence on their online reputation. Since the rating does not include a building score, reputation management strategies such as soliciting resident feedback and responding to existing reviews will have a more noticeable impact.

The new ratings score is available for all Apartments.com listings across desktop and mobile platforms.
