The section of Arlington bordering Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport just south of the Pentagon is largely a business and commercial district full of large high-rise buildings. The lifestyle here is distinctly urban, with many corporate professionals living very close to where they work (the close proximity to the airport, the Pentagon, and Washington also makes the Crystal City community a popular choice for government employees and frequent travelers).
Folks around the DC area are familiar with the shopping centers here, particularly the famous subterranean Crystal Underground mall. Residents also enjoy easy access to several large public parks, including the scenic Long Bridge Park and Four Mile Run Park.

Property Ratings at Crystal Towers
They advertise “24/7 emergency maintenance” for things like water leaks and a/c issues. Yeah that’s BS. And the concierge team is either unable or unwilling to lift a finger to help. (They’re also generally very rude and unhelpful.) So if you’re someone prone to bad luck: look elsewhere. The 24/7 emergency maintenance is a myth. They could not respond to our a/c unit leaking large amounts of water (so we cut the a/c off) until the next day in the middle of summer despite confirming they were on the way to help when we reported it.

Thank you for sharing your experience, we're very sorry to hear about the frustration and inconvenience you encountered. We understand how upsetting it must have been to deal with an A/C leak during the summer, especially after being told someone was on the way. That’s certainly not the level of service we aim to provide, and we apologize for the delay in addressing your issue. We also regret that your interaction with our concierge team left a negative impression. If you’re open to discussing this further, we’d really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly and work toward a resolution. Please feel free to contact us at 703.521.9000 so that we can discuss this further. Kind Regards, Sergi Cardoza Property Manager
We have lived in Crystal Towers since April 2024, since renewing our lease earlier this year we have faced a series of issues making us extremely unwilling to renew again OR recommend this place to ANYONE else. TLDR: It is expensive to live in this area, when you think about spending your monthly rent money - consider the negative reviews for this building. It is not worth the headache for the amount of rent you pay. They are constantly doing construction on this building, constantly shutting off the water or electricity, closing the garages, shutting down an elevator etc. all with little notice - sometimes only 24 hours notice. Additionally, we have now found a mouse in our apartment, likely due to the constant renovations. We contacted pest control and they failed to show up for over a week. After showing up they offered no solutions, said they would come back and check behind the dishwasher and still have not come back. Lastly, and most importantly, we have gotten unfairly towed multiple times, most recently from a spot that was not marked as a tow zone and is easily confused with a regular parking spot. So much so that the manager has said that multiple people have gotten towed over the last month from that spot. When we asked if we could get a credit for this irresponsible tow, they agreed that it was not the clearest and the lines are faint but they would not be crediting us back 'because then they'd have to credit everyone' - which shows that its not that there was a clear violation, but rather the hassle would fall on the apartment building and they don't want to do that. Anytime we have had an issue we have always faced a lack of response and solution from building management, despite being loyal tenants for more than a year.

Noise from other tenants and construction: it’s brutal and you will hate your life at the lack of peace. There is also mold, crime, and unhelpful awful management. Also I find roaches all the time. I got lured in. Don’t do it.
Great location, but…. Very noisy. Everyone complains about it. Non-responsive management. Promises made (new carpets in halls) but not kept. Some crime in building (prostitution, weed, stealing packages, assaults in parking lot). Constant fire alarms at all hours. Amenities never work. Why would current guests get charged more than new ones with new lease deals? Seems very unfair. As the other write-up said, #CockroachCity. Had two in my laundry machine…. And it’s noisy. I can hear everything the neighbors are doing.

Signed for one apartment, but got a different one with old bathroom. Mold everywhere, but never fixed even after complaining. Replaced appliances with ones that don’t fit, so doors don’t open all the way on fridge and microwave. Noise from other apartments keeps us up at night, but they won’t address it. Marijuana smell is pervasive. Packages get stolen off door. Cockroach city is a new nickname.

Pros: Location. Great location. Cons: unhelpful and incompetent management. Noise is awful. A lot of roaches and mold. Air conditioning is turned on for only a few months, meaning you roast for most of the Spring, early summer, and fall. The noise. The noise. The noise. Packages get stolen a lot. Boy do you get charged extra for every amenity…but you get cheap waffles once a month, so if you think that breaks you even…also the noise. And marijuana is smelling up the building constantly.

Not what you think you are getting. Everyone comes in happy, leave upset. Unhelpful staff, cockroaches, and package thieves. Noise is a nightmare. Cheap amenities that rarely work (talking about you, coffee machine). GO ELSEWHERE

Safety Hazards: There have been 2 police ambushes involving rifles right outside the front entrance, creating a dangerous & unsettling environment. One took place during day light hours while the other took place at night. Excessive Fees: Imposes numerous fees, including an unnecessary package delivery service (Fetch) & an automatic opt-in to RentPlus, all without the option to opt out. IMPORTANT: When you move out of Crystal Towers, your account with RentPlus is closed. This will impact your credit score. Also, Amazon delivers directly to your door, eliminating the need for Fetch, but you will continue to be charged for Fetch services regardless. Hidden Fees: The addition of new fees, like an automatic cleaning fee ($125; amount may very) upon lease renewal/lease termination, without prior notice, is a clear attempt to extract more money from tenants. This charge is not deducted from security deposit. You will be automatically charged a carpet cleaning fee which will be deducted from your security deposit. A potential way around this is if you hire a cleaning service or rent a carpet shampoo machine and you present the receipt as evidence. Unfair Rent Practices: They incentivize referrals with up to $1,500 (incentive decreased to $250 upon my departure) while simultaneously raising rents for renewing tenants, demonstrating a lack of transparency and fairness. Rat Problem: Outside the building, there's a rat problem, which not only looks bad but is also unsanitary & concerning for residents' health. Odor and Sanitation: The nauseating sewage-like smell outside the building in the evenings/early mornings is a constant concern, likely due to a nearby facility and wind patterns. Gym Ineffectiveness: Missing weights and equipment that tenants take. Multiple tenants have reported missing items, management claims the cameras don't work, so they can't do anything about it. Fire Alarm Disruptions: Almost every week, the fire alarm goes off after midnight, seriously disrupting sleep & causing significant inconvenience. Temperature Control: Tenants have no control over the thermostat (temperature). From May to October, only cold air comes out of the vents, while from November to April, only hot air is available. The lack of climate control adds to the discomfort of living here. Disclosure: This is my experience during my residency from 2022 to 2023, and I no longer reside at this complex. Staff was friendly during the initial lease signing process.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for bringing your concerns to our attention. We take our reviews very seriously and we regret that you were not satisfied with your experience at our community during your residency. Our team takes pride in providing excellent customer service and we are always looking for ways to improve. Regarding the safety hazards that you mentioned, there was some police activity in front of our building in July, however it was due to a traffic stop unrelated to our community or any of our residents. We regret that the traffic stop ended at Crystal Towers, however, we fully support our police department in doing their job and cannot control external factors. I would also like to clarify that this was a single occurrence. Residents are made aware of all fees associated with living at our community prior to move in and are also informed of our building heating and cooling systems. In regards to our Gym cameras and equipment, we have recently refreshed our gym equipment and also service it regularly replacing items that may be damaged or removed. You mentioned that management stated that the cameras were not working, this is incorrect information. Rent plus is a wonderful tool that allows for on-time rental payments to be reported as positive activity on credit reports if a resident chooses to opt in. This is an optional service and I apologize if that was not made clear to you. Crystal Towers does not impose any hidden fees, move out fees are listed in the notice to vacate acknowledgement packet which is sent to residents after receipt of their notice to vacate. I see that we sent you your packet on August 7th Upon receiving your notice. The cleaning fees are addressed in the 3rd bullet point of the first page. We also provided the cost breakdown if any other areas of the apartment were not properly cleaned and give all residents the option to be present at the final move out inspection if they so choose. We do offer resident referrals; this is not an unfair rental practice. It has actually been a great source of new residents, as it encourages current residents who love their apartment home to share their honest feedback regarding their experience at Crystal Towers. Please note that pricing and specials are subject to change at any time based on the current market conditions, this applies to new residents. At time of renewal we offer flexible lease options, which reflect pricing variations should there be any. I apologize that you experienced an odor outside of our building, this is the first we have heard of this issue as there are no facilities in our vicinity, and I am not sure what may have caused this when you experienced it. Regarding the fire alarm disruptions, we have only had 1 documented fire alarm occurrence in the past 6 months, aside from our annual fire alarm testing in which we make residents aware of in advance. Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we can improve. Sincerely, Sergi Cardoza Property Manager
I lived in 12th floor of north building and I had pretty much bad experience. First of all, rent is super high for the old apartments. And they were shutting off water supply often for 6-7 hours. And the worst of all, when it rained, water was dripping from ceiling so much that I had to keep buckets to fill water. Then the floor wood was chipping off which was awful. Overall it was a bitter experience. I moved out of the place within one year of my lease agreement. And when it came to renewing lease, they were asking us 400$ more for old rusty apartment which was already overly priced. The ONLY reason I gave 2 star is for location.

Thank you for providing this detailed review. We take your concerns very seriously and appreciate your feedback. Since your stay with us, we’ve undergone extensive renovations throughout our community and are continuously improving all aspects of resident life here at Crystal Towers. That said, your experience concerns us and we’d like to learn more to make sure that there are no lingering issues. Please email us at crystaltowers@dweckproperties.com at your earliest convenience so that we make sure to deliver the best living experience for all.
The amenities lure you into thinking this is a nice updated place, but the minute you step off onto an upper floor you know this place hasn’t been renovated since the 60’s when it was built. The hallways themselves going into the apartments look dilapidated and the molding is crooked. The apartments look straight out of the 60’s with extremely dated kitchen ware and the quintessential powder blue tiling in the bathrooms. The pictures they show of their model apartment is very deceiving and not a true representation of the apartments they lease
I live in Crystal Towers for more than one year. It’s a good community. I live in 9th floor in south tower, and there is a cockroach last year and we called the maintenance service and it was fast and effective. Crystal Towers’s best advantage is their quick response. Maintenance is within 24 hours usually the next day. And we got a little mice problem which was fixed afterwards. As far as I know, as long as I clean the kitchen, that’s fine. Crystal Towers is located in a very convenient place. Like two minutes walk to Costco, maybe 10 mins walk to Harris Teeter. Best Buy Macy Nordstrom. It’s pretty good to live near by. And also close to the metro too.
I at first wasn't interested in Crystal Towers due to the lack of laundry facilities within most of the apartments. When a couple of other places fell through I ended up here through default. I was extremely lucky. This apartment block is awesome. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. It's just across the road from the entrance to all the Crystal City stores and the metro, as well as being only 10-15 minutes walk from the Pentagon City mall. It has a large dog run, as well as being 5 minutes walk from another very large dog park. It's got great outdoor BBQ and it has a summer only swimming pool. It has a convenience store in the basement, as well as a hair salon and a nail spa. Fantastic for when it's not the weather you want to go outside in. The best facility though is the doggie daycare in the basement. They're open long hours, and also provide other services such as dog walking, cat visits etc. Not having laundry in the apartment is a disadvantage in my opinion, but there are laundry facilities on every floor, so you don't need to lug everything down to the basement like you do in many buildings. The hallways are also looking a bit dated and there's a noticeable smell in some places (maybe coming from the carpets?) but these are minor points. Other people have said about cockroaches and mice, I haven't seen any evidence of that, but the building's staff have come in to put down preventative treatments against cockroaches. Overall, this is a great building and I highly recommend.
We moved here as it offers the Rental Partnership Program through the military. Within 2 months we had discovered mice in our apartment. They showed us another apartment that was available but it had cockroaches in the kitchen. There was nothing else available for two weeks. As we have an infant who was learning to crawl, we needed a hygienic place to stay for 2 weeks. We decided we needed to go to a hotel for the sake of our son. We asked the manager to credit us the two weeks rent we would not be at the apartment to offset the money we had to spend on a hotel but he refused and said living mice was "part of the normal urban experience". $3000 dollars later, we moved into an apartment on the 7th floor. The very first morning I opened the drawer in the kitchen where we kept our silverware and there was a cockroach. Unless you don't mind this particular sort of urban experience, stay away!!
You get the following amenities: - Pool - Gym (very small, no serious equipment) - Internet Cafe (horrible wifi) - Convenience store (even though there's a ton of other stores nearby) Our unit looked decent, but the carpet, kitchen, and bathrooms were obviously dated. There was no fan in the bathroom. What really turned us off was the insane cockroach problem. We were religious about cleanliness and putting food away - they still remained. Exterminators were well aware of the 'cockroach season' of Crystal Towers. Leasing office was also pretty off their game as far as the move-in and move-out process. I had to check in way too often to ensure the lease signing process was under-way. And they were awful at communication concerning the moving out process. Would not recommend to someone (unless they love cockroaches).
The amenity fee is a bit hefty at $500.00 but you get a ton for it and you might just get a move-in deal that waives it. Plus there's no move-in fee so generally it works out. Nicely maintained pool, gym, "internet cafe", & common areas; free yoga as well as other fitness classes, periodic socials, brunch once a month, popcorn Fridays... I appreciate that in such a large complex, they make efforts to give it a sense of community. The apartments themselves are very large, though being older buildings, they might not have the most ideal layouts. Balconies are huge as well. My apartment could use an updated dishwasher and oven though both function good enough for now. Walls are thick so no disturbances from neighbors. Occasional noise from out in the hall or from the street but never enough for it be an issue. Location is fantastic being just a few mins walk from the metro and walking distance to everything in both Crystal and Pentagon City. Have lived here for a few months now and very happy with the decision so far.
This wonderful property is a good choice to those who seek being near to almost all local services such as, national airport, Costco Wholsale, Pentagon Mall & Fashion Center, health services, and eventually, the Metro facility. The courtyard in here is a wonderful one and allows the familial and friends gatherings. The general atmosphere is perfect.
Close to lots of establishments for both men and women. Shopping, restaurants, transportation, banks and USPS. staff is extremely friendly. Maintenance comes promptly no matter the day or night. Facilities are clean. Email updates are sent out about events and closures. All around a great place to live.
The foyer looks like a grand hotel, quick access to metro and shopping as well as activities in and around the Arlington and Alexandria neighborhoods. Outdoor shared spaces including a nice swimming pool and several grilling areas make for good times in nice weather. Building has its own convenience store on the basement level...convenient.
After spending a decade in DC, I decided to hop the Potomac and seek out more space - but still wanted city conveniences. After a search to the end of the BLUE and YELLOW Lines, I landed at Crystal Towers Apartments 5 years ago. The apartments are spacious - almost twice the space as my tenure in DC, and having a HUGE balcony, pool and convenience store on-sight is great! I even happen to have a view of a couple of the monuments. Best of all, I'm across the street from METRO and 2 blocks from Pentagon City Mall. I can walk to dining, shopping... anything I need, or get to downtown DC in 10 minutes...and still have room to breathe.
Crystal Towers is very conveniently located in Arlington VA, between the areas of Crystal City, Pentagon City and Aurora Highlands. It's just one block away from the Crystal City Metro station, a couple blocks from the Pentagon City Metro and a block from the new Metroway bus rapid transit line. Other Metrobuses and Arlington ART buses are nearby as well. A Capital Bikeshare bike station is just across the street. Adjacent roads have protected bike lanes. The Crystal City Shops (older indoor/underground mall that has changed from retail to artist studios and a makerspace, plus new restaurants), Costco, Pentagon Centre, Pentagon City mall and Pentagon Row are all within walking distance. The Mt. Vernon Trail is just a few blocks away for anyone who enjoys walking, running or cycling. Reagan National Airport is only one Metro stop away. It's also within walking distance, although the walk is a little long. The building itself is older, built in the 1960s I believe. This means that the HVAC system can only provide heat or cooling at any given time. They switch over the system from heat to cooling in the spring and back again in the fall. There are a few days during the transition where it might get too hot or too cold. The building has been renovated over the years, with a relatively new pool (25 yard length plus a deeper side pool), a fitness center on the top floor of one of the two buildings and two computer rooms available for resident use. The printer runs out of paper or suffers from paper jams a lot, however. The apartments are decently sized for the Arlington/DC area. Someone from a small town would find them small, but that's the case with most apartments in urban/suburban areas, including Arlington and DC. The walls are not entirely soundproof. If someone nearby is blasting a stereo with heavy bass, you'll hear it. Normal conversations aren't audible. However, smoking can be an issue. If one resident is a chain smoker and they like to open their windows (because they don't want to breathe in the smoke, even though they are the ones smoking!), then all the smoke can filter into nearby apartments. This is a health hazard to others. It can be almost unbearable for many. The staff do try to address the issue, but there is more that can be done. There's no constitutional right to smoke or to poison the air that other people breathe. The appliances and cabinets are so-so. Nothing really special, but not awful either.
Loved this place and the beauty that surrounds it. Close to work and fun places to play. Close to running and bike trails right near the Potomac. Crystal City is a very unique place to live and Crystal towers has been very pleasent.
I rented a three bedroom apartment at Crystal Towers in Crystal city. The space in the apartment is fantastic but some of the appliances and the in unit washer and dryer could use an update. Also, sometimes parking can fill up if you are looking for a spot late at night. Other than those two points I've had a great experience and it was a solid apartment.
If you are looking for a smaller, garden-style community with all the conveniences and amenities of a larger high-rise building, but at a more reasonable price point, then this is the perfect place for you. With 24/7 front desk security staff that is friendly and helpful, maintenance staff that is quick and responsive, an in-building gym, large lap-sized pool, and larger than average floor plans with all new appliances, living at Lofts 590 really makes your money go a long way. The surrounding neighborhood offers convenient “within walking-distance” access to public transportation, restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores and pharmacies, as well as name brand, affordable, retailers, with less noise and foot traffic that often plagues other areas.
I have enjoyed my year here. It is clean and staff is caring. What more do YOU need?
We've lived here for over 2 years and wouldn't want to move. W/D in-unit is standard (hooray!), and they have options for most preferences (lofts, balconies, outside storage, surface or garage parking, and options facing N, S, E, or W). We love our north-facing light-filled 2BR with 3 Juliet balconies. Open floorplan with amazing modern kitchen and more closet space/storage than I've seen at other buildings in the area. Shared pool with Crystal Towers is nice, usually enough chairs for everyone during the summer. Building and premises always clean and well-maintained. Maintenance requests usually filled in 24 hours. Building staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Only cons: exercise room is a bit small; elevators are not centrally located; typically a large rent increase at end of each lease.
It's just been a week since I moved here and I like it so far. The location is amazing, there are bars, restaurants, shopping centers, groceries and metro at a walking distance. The management hosts networking events like happy hour, movie nights etc every month. They have 24 hour concierge.which is really helpful in case you lock yourself out or need to pick up a package. There is a gym at the penthouse level, it is not fancy but it has basic machines. I would recommend to at lease check the place out if you are looking for something in crystal city/pentagon city area.
I lived at crystal house for many years, but management have changed in the last 1 and a half and it's been downhill from there. Please make sure you always read reviews carefully before you pick a place. A lot of times you see positive reviews and you'll notice that they have only been living there for a month or two. Usually bad management does not show its true colors until you need them .. need help with maintenance, need help with noisy neighbours, need help with extending lease or when you move out and they slap you with heavy moving charges. this place even takes a 500 dollar check from you befor eyou can use their moving elevator when you move out! and they would not take a personal check from a tenant who lived there for a decade when i moved out. They asked for a certified check or money order for the move out fees. Horrible experience..please don't be fooled. FYI . finally moved out a week ago and never felt happier!
I have lived at Crystal Towers for almost nine years now. The buildings and surrounding areas are very well maintained. It is always clean. If you should ever have any kind of maintenance issue (such as a clogged sink), my experience has been that maintenance staff fix it within an hour or two. If it is an emergency, they are there in five minutes. The apartments are huge. The building's design is open and spacious. The new management have added gorgeous new landscaping, including palm trees around the swimming pool in the summer time. The management at Crystal Towers, especially in the last year or so, is the best anywhere. They really treat the residents with respect and consideration. They go out of their way (big time), to help with any issues you might have. I feel like I am living in a nice hotel.
While these are fairly good apartments, management has run them into the ground. Noisy, management does not enforce house rules. Obvious management (changed three times in two months) intends to drive out renters to convert to condos. Outdated carpets and appliances, management will not replace. Have heard management charges exorbitant damage fees for routine wear and tear of 10 year old musty carpets. Location is excellent, across from Crystal City Metro. And well, because new management is now charging $100/mo for surface parking (without getting agreement from tenants) but over -subscribing so only 45% of those with parking passes can get overnight parking , prepare for a $150 tow fee. Otherwise, like NYC, you have to bolt out by 0800 and hope someone who left early opens a parking space for you. Utilities are outrageous -- a One bedroom is charged over $140 per month (higher than the $100 for my 2100 Sq Ft HOUSE in a major city in PA and a house in Reston, Va) so would not be surprised if management is padding the books. You can do better. This place went down the tubes. Leave it to the management company. I'll take the penalty to get out of this pit.

Dear Resident, Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We appreciate all of our residents’ feedback and apologize for your living experience thus far. We are in the process of reexamining the parking policy for Crystal Towers. We hope to reconcile the number of passes with the number of parking spots available. As for the Utility costs, there is not really a way for us to “pad the books” as you suggest. We use a third party for utility billing and they determine the costs based on square footage and number of occupants. If you would like to discuss the parking or any of the other issues you mentioned in your review, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Melissa Calkins Vice President of Residential Property Management (703) 876-9590
it is a well maintained, spacious complex worth living however, as with other buildings nearby, it is overpriced for what it offers
