Property Ratings at Columbia Plaza
I was very pleased with my time there. I got exactly what I had hoped for when I originally toured the facility. My apartment, the laundry room, the gym, and just the building in general were clean and functional. The staff were tremendous. Everyone from the leasing office, to maintenance, to the front desk were always incredibly polite and efficient. I didn't have a single negative interaction with anyone. The area around the building was solid. It was safe and pretty quiet. I loved that I had a small market on-site and a handful of other options within a 10 minute walk. On-site Parking was a separate company, but was also great. If I had one wish, it would have been for a more traditional air-conditioner setup. The setup was explained to me prior to signing the lease (so just ask them - no need to re-explain), but that last month waiting for the building to turn over from heat to cold could be rough. That's it though. Really a solid place to live. I though I paid a good price for my one-bedroom with plenty of space. I was pleased with my decision and would make it again.
Building is outdated and roach invested. On top of this, there was a shooting here recently that management tried to downplay to cover up their security issues. Whatever security they do have spends their shifts gossiping with the front desk or sleeping on the chairs.

We thank you for taking the time to write your review. The incident that occurred last month is still an active and open investigation. We take security very seriously here at Columbia Plaza but we also have to follow the rules and protocol of an open investigation. We take pride in our transparency with our residents, and we just had a member of the police department give our residents an open forum on this incident. If you'd like to speak with one of our leasing managers to address some of your other concerns, please do call or message us.
The location can't be beat - minutes to the GW metro, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Georgetown, and the mall. It is an easy commute into the heart of DC, into Virginia due to proximity of the I-66 on-ramp and memorial bridge, or going north via Rock Creek parkway. The service was always great, especially Kevin, Detra, and Jessica at the front desk. Finally, the Market mini-mart shop was great - it had all the essentials and also a great selection of beer and whiskey.
The Columbia Plaza is an awesome apartment complex! The location is ideal & within walking distance to the metro, the monuments, grocery stores & GW hospital. It’s super safe and well protected with key fob entry. The best part about Columbia Plaza is the amazing, professional & friendly staff that manage the leasing office-Maria has been there for 25 years & it shows in her knowledge of the property & her kindness with her customers. She showed me several apartments & knew quite a bit about the history; she answered all my questions, drafted the agreement, & made sure everything was in order before she left on vacation. Kelly, Tia & Iris have also made my transition to apartment-living easy & effortless by their friendliness & their help with printing documents, drafting verification letters & answering parking issue questions. A big shout- out goes to the front desk staff for always being there with a smile under their mask & for notifying me of any deliveries. I’m also grateful for the maintenance team who checked to make sure I didn’t leave my stove on once! I love the convenience of the Market, Wells Fargo & The Magic Gourd all in the pavilion downstairs. It’s really a great place with awesome staff & I love calling Columbia Plaza my home!
My wife and I lived in a one-bedroom “Wisconsin” unit at Columbia Plaza for 4 1/2 years. We could not have been happier with our experience. The apartments are quite spacious compared to newer apartment buildings and kept in good condition. Our unit had a large balcony that became a much needed oasis for us, especially during the pandemic. The staff is friendly and professional. Anytime we made a maintenance request it was usually handled the same day. The location is un-beatable. We could walk to Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, CVS, Foggy Bottom Metro, dozens of restaurants, the Kennedy Center, the Georgetown Waterfront, the Mall, Rock Creek Park, and four great running/biking trails. We both work at GWU, and being able to walk to work was a huge bonus. The rental rate for a one-bedroom apartment is about the most affordable you’ll find in Foggy Bottom. We highly recommend Columbia Plaza for anyone who needs a walkable, affordable apartment in the heart of DC.
I've lived in Columbia Plaza, Diplomat Building (most expensive and renovated one!!) for 2 years. I've ran into all kinds of problems you can name, but I will only mention some major ones that are as follows: 1- Elevator: There are only two elevators with no freight elevator in this building, so I think you can imagine the rest of the story when people moving in and out. However that is not the only issue, the elevators are literally disaster. There were time that both didn't work and I had to run up the stairs to get to the 9th floor with hands full of groceries. They regularly shut one elevator down to maintain the other one, and typically maintenance work took about couple months to finish. Idk when they are going to understand that those elevators are old and problematic and need to be replaced. 2- Cockroach: I had small cockroaches in my kitchen. It took them 3-4 months to get rid of those. 3- AC leaking: There was one time that my AC leaked and wood flooring in almost half of my apartment had to be replaced. I had regular issue with wood flooring as well, almost both summers I had isolated wood flooring delamination. I wanted to move out at the end my lease at first year, however for personal reasons I had to extend my lease for another year. I regret my decision now. So just wanted to give a heads up to people who are considering renting in this apartment complex.
I've had a great experience so far at Columbia Plaza. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent location, no issues with apartment.. would recommend to anyone looking for good value in the area.
I moved to an apartment at Columbia Plaza on January 24th, 2018 Unfortunately after 20 days I have not been able to spend one night at “home” because the place is infested with the worst animal ever: COCKROACHES And lots of them…. All sizes and colors. EVERYWHERE After patiently waiting for the problem to be solved I decided that I do not deserve this I came to the realization that I have paid two full months of rent, but haven’t been able to spend a single night at home. When I asked for my rent and moving fees money back they simply said: NO. My lease clearly explains "at the time of the execution of this lease, it is in good order and repair and in a safe, clean, and habitable condition. This building and company have no care for their residents. This cockroach problem was definitely going on before I moved in and no one ever warned me. ? I wanted to make this review to advise people against moving into the Columbia Plaza buildings and any other residences managed by Polinger Company, for that matter. I am in the process to take Polinger to court. If someone out there has had the same problems please reach out, and we can build off each other cases.

I have lived at CP for almost two years and I absolutely love it. The building is beautiful and the apartments are newly renovated. I've never seen a single bug. Management and maintenance crews are amazing and attentive. Best part is that it's walkable to grocery stores, metro, and major bus lines. And the price is right! I'll be here for a while :)
I was sold after the first visit. The building is amazing and the staff makes for a wonderful experience. The location is walking distance from grocery stores, the Kennedy Center, school and restaurants. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed!
when I lived there. It was known as the poor man's Watergate. Close enough to use all of the shops and within walking distance of GW as well as the State Department and other government offices.
