The historic neighborhood of Old Town is located in the North Side of Chicago, adjacent to Lincoln Park. Its buildings date back to the Victorian era, but the pace is anything but old-fashioned.
Old Town is lively both day and night – residents enjoy the cool, eclectic shops as well as rustic taverns along Wells Street. When you first step into the community, you’ll probably notice the iron “Old Town” sign. You’ll also discover the diversity here, both in food and culture. The comedy zone is a great place to go for a good laugh – check out the Second City or Zanies Comedy Club for weekly shows.

I lived in Cobbler Square Lofts for three years and thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The building has unmatched character in its common spaces and in the units themselves. Friends and family were always impressed with the charm of the building. Front desk staff were always kind, friendly, and helpful. Maintenance team was responsive to issues and able to fix problems quickly. Common spaces were well maintained. There’s a great sunroof with communal grills, a fire pit, and great views of the north side. There are, of course, some downsides to the building. The walls and floors are quite thin, so you’ll hear any loud music or conversations in your neighbors’ units. I rarely experienced “disruptive” noise from neighbors - more just general awareness of TVs, music, or phone calls. External brick walls can be a bit drafty, so I usually requested maintenance each fall/spring to seal up gaps in mortar. Overall, I definitely recommend living here. It’s a great location and a unique building. Get yourself a unit with a view of the internal courtyards and you should find it very comfortable.

There was a security incident earlier this year. An intruder had gotten in the building. Additionally the garbage disposal on my floor (building F) has not been working. Sometimes the laundry machines don’t work. Additionally, they told me I couldn’t renew my lease due to the new construction and asked me to reapply to move to a different unit within cobbler square (would have to pay application fee and would still have to pay double rent if timeline doesn’t work). This is incredibly inconsiderate and not what I would expect from management.

Dear Cobbler Square Team, My experience at Cobbler Square Lofts Apartments has been wonderful overall. I truly enjoy living here and like it so much that I’ve resigned my lease for another year! The only slight confusion has been the number of times our property management has changed over the two years I’ve been a resident. People in building are generally nice and dogs stay quiet. Building is big so you will find occasional unfriendly people. Noise insulation from inside and outside is questionable at best. Someone broke into the building twice (March 2025) (April 2025) and tried to get into my and my neighbors’ apartments. Main elevator in lobby breaks kinda often. Maintenance is EXTREMELY quick (but you’ll find that with any large complex like this).

Generally a good place to live. There are some issues I would like to see resolved: garbage shutes clogged, rooftop very messy with broken chairs and overflowing garbage cans. There is also a large issue with the laundry. Many washers and dryers are broken/out of order and the ones that do work range from $1.75 - $3.50 even though they are the exact same machine.

Really nice staff and beautiful place, only woe is that the elevator is never working :( Location is great and the aesthetic of the place is very unique. Really beautiful units. One thing to note is that the walls can be a bit thin, other than that great place to stay!

I was so excited to move into Cobbler and finally live in Old Town in a charming loft unit. However, the charm was quickly lost as I learned about all the “perks” I get living in the building. I’ll start with pests. I can count 3 different species of spiders that I find and kill nearly daily that regular sprays do not stop. Spiders have been found in my bathroom, closet, kitchen, BED - you name it. I also have the joy of finding earthworms (yes, you read that right), rollie pollies, and now centipedes. Additionally, I’ve had to invest hundreds of dollars in heaters, fans, and humidifiers due to a horribly inefficient and outdated HVAC system. Think: 80 upstairs and barely 65 downstairs with no air circulation. Brick falls apart if you touch certain areas in the unit due to negligence, and management’s fix is a temporary sealer that looks like whitewash painted on the bricks. Other building perks include hearing your neighbors’ every conversation, smelling their dinner or when they decide to smoke, and oh! I also don’t think they’ve ever cleaned the gym. There have been handprints on the mirror since I’ve moved in. I’m in an outdated split-level unit, and I truly hope this isn’t everyone’s experience. However, I thought I would share before someone else naively signs without seeing their unit or an honest review.
Ali and Rafael came quickly to fix my drain issues and did so effectively. Very happy to live in a place with great staff.

I love the location, service, amenities, and staff! There is so much to do on Wells and Division, all within walking distance. The beach and the park are a 10 minute walk, it’s incredible. The service technicians have always responded same day for any issue, and they’ve fixed everything correctly the first time. The fitness center and sun deck allow me to enjoy community events (stand up comedy!) and avoid a gym membership. I love the staff here. The concierge, Theo, always welcomes me home! He’s more than just a front desk fixture - he puts a smile on my face every time I walk into the front of the building. My wife and I have been here for three years, and we intend on staying here until we decide to buy a place.

I’ve lived at Cobbler for about two years now and absolutely love it. Staff is amazing and always helpful. Location is unbeatable heart of Old Town and apartments are full of character. I look forward to living here for many more years!
They never help out, if there’s a problem the owners in the management office just say “you’re on your own.” Every day there is some new kind of construction that they never informed any of the residents about, so we get woken up to LOUD drilling, knocking, and every noise you can think of. This has been going on since late April. They said it would only take two weeks.. clearly not. The sound is so loud that it is impossible to sleep in or just focus on work. It goes from 6 am all the way into the evening. Don’t even get me started on the creepy construction workers peeping into my windows and yelling very loudly. I have informed the office multiple times and every single time they do nothing to help me. I do not feel safe or at peace in my own apartment. Additionally, I was promised to have the same rent for five years that’s why I chose this complex, but the new owners are pushing and pushing and cancelling all of it for everyone expecting us to pay hundreds of dollars more just SUDDENLY. I will be getting out of my lease as soon as possible. Two years of dealing with this since the new owners came is ENOUGH.
I live in a 2 bedroom converted loft apartment in Cobbler Square in the heart of Old Town and I couldn't be happier here. The staff is friendly and helpful. The maintenance is great and the location is perfect. Easy to get to public transit and Lake Shore Drive or 90/94. I walk to everything I need and feel completely safe. Best decision I made.
This once Dr Sholls factory turned modern loft is a great place to call home here in the best area of Chicago. Huge vaulted ceilings, exposed brick back wall and fully updated kitchen/bathroom are just a small part of this very cool building. Sun deck,hot tub, billiards and shuffleboard add to the modern feel and fun iof the area. Step outside and you have access to over 20 bars and restaurants along with waking distance to beaches and downtown.
