Property Ratings at Caya Avenue Apartments
My relative has lived here for a while now. The building just got new management and they’re very unprofessional. The building is old and tired, needs extensive updates throughout. There seems to be a problem with the heat. My relative has been without heat several times now. This has been a cold winter! They fix it, it doesn’t work, they fix it again, same problem. When it rains heavyly, the ceiling leaks! I really want my relative to move from this place because for what you pay, it’s not worth it. I also saw someone almost get there tires stolen in the rear parking lot until someone stopped them! There’s not security cameras. When it snows be prepared to walk through snow. They don’t shovel properly which leaves you walking on a mountain of snow. Management needs to improve and they also should improve the building as well.
When I first moved here (09-10) I wanted SO much to love this complex that I looked away on a number of things that I should not have looked away on. Right off the bat, there are some positives with the units... there are washers and dryers in the basement (which worked inconsistently, but like 90% of the time were fine). Similarly the heat was shaky but when I needed it repaired Monday through Friday, the guy was beyond quick on having it set and running very well (especially for free heat). The units are outdated but the space was huge and the older A/C units worked great. I was able to take over someones lease and the management let me work with the original renter to pay less while they finished it up. The building is definitely older but the tenants were surprisingly clean and there was never a bug problem (bed bugs, pests, beetles, I only had an occasional house centipede and occasional silverfish). Finally, the location was good-straight up and for being somewhat shady area-wise, parking lot was not bad. Some reasons to think in depth on this complex, I paid $750 a month at the time and I can tell you that it was not worth that money. Over the year and a half that I was there, snow problems were not bad and they even had a shovel in the front room (which kept being taken) however rain storms would leak into the apartment. I got to live the pots and pans experience and didn't think much of it then, but you know, $750 doesn't really convey pots and pans. The location is somewhat iffy as on a routine basis there would be a person digging through the trash, but know full well that this building is pretty much in Hartford. You will get Hartford mail 50% of the time over West Hartford mail. My unit also was broken into and the building supervisor would not change my locks after so I had to change them. I got in a very heated argument with this person over it and they wanted to charge me for changing the locks, challenging that my unit was robbed, despite the police report and cop-neighbor interaction that occurred. On a final negative note, as mentioned above Monday-Friday maintenance was good--Friday evening through Sunday night, not so much. I had my heat break once on a Tuesday or Wednesday..well repaired. My heat broke on a Friday afternoon in January, it was not fixed until Monday evening.
