History

This picturesque area began flourishing in 1891 with the development of the Broadmoor casino. Many of the historic establishments that characterize the area today, such as the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club, The Broadmoor and Broadmoor Golf Club, were built in the early 1900s, which gives the neighborhood it's distinctive Victorian feel.

Resort recreation unparalleled by few graces the area. A world-class spa and Donald Ross-designed golf course are part of the esteemed Broadmoor resort and are sure to please even the most seasoned attendees.

Only a couple miles from the center of the neighborhood, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is tucked into the mountainside, providing a unique and intimate experience. During the month of December, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo features an Electric Safari. Dozens of animated light sculptures and burning fires throughout the zoo provide a warming and festive experience loved by all.

Transportation

The tight-knit community of Broadmoor is mostly travelled by foot, bike and car. Though it may be difficult to hail a cab, popular options such as public transportation and Uber provide a quick and easy alternatives to get around. If natural and organic food is your preference, stop at Natural Grocers just a few miles away on South Nevada Avenue, where you'll find better than average prices on vitamins, produce, meats and cheeses.

Parks

Situated within the Bear Creek Regional Park, Broadmoor residents have the cream-of-the-crop for outdoor recreation. At nearby Helen Hunt Falls, beautiful and majestic scenery awaits, makin the area popular with both tourists and locals. A small hike to the top that's perfect for people of all ages and dogs alike makes for a rewarding excursion, with views of a gorgeous waterfall and an overlook of the valley below. Access is free and parking is typically convenient.

If you're looking for more play time for Fido, Bear Creek Dog Park is the best in the area. A creek, large open spaces and agility track characterize this little piece of dog heaven. Parking can be difficult, so opt for a weekday visit if you can.

Stratton Open Space is a magnificent natural park filled with trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. All trails are properly marked with the level of difficulty, making it easy for the beginner or expert to navigate their way through this pristine wonderland. Views of the mountains, neighboring Colorado Springs and The Broadmoor draw the locals to the serene landscape of Stratton Open Space park.
