Summit-University borders Downtown Saint Paul to the west. This historic neighborhood is also home to one of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s houses. Filled with Victorian mansions, brick apartments, canopy streets, and lush parks, Summit-University maintains a quaint charm. A handful of locally-owned pubs, coffee shops, and restaurants in cozy settings heighten the neighborhood’s small-town charm. There are rental options for every budget, but residents certainly appreciate the area’s affordability.
Along with access to good public schools, Summit-University is convenient to Concordia University-Saint Paul and Macalester College. Interstate 94 and US Route 12 run through Summit-University so residents can easily drive into downtown or Minneapolis. If you prefer public transportation, there are several rail stations located along the northern border of the neighborhood.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Ashland Apartments
I lived at Ashland Apartments for a little over a year and it was as darling a building and neighborhood as could be. The units are of course small but have very smart storage solutions that make living very comfortable for one person. I never had a maintenance issue in my unit but I submitted a request once for a lightbulb that had died in the hallway and it was fixed the next day. The building was very quiet when I lived there. Located right by the 21 and 63 bus routes, it was very easy to get downtown and to other parts of the Twin Cities. While certainly not a new or flashy building, the historic charm and friendly management staff leave me without a single complaint!

Thank you so much for your kind words. We do our best to maintain this historic building and provide a safe, affordable place for people to call home. I wish you the best.
My favorite place I've ever lived! Loved the building, it's in such a peaceful neighborhood, and management is very helpful and down to earth. My studio was super charming and I fell in love with all the shelving included in my unit.
Great neighborhood. Property management is consistent. In the winter, residents are emailed and notified to park on one side of the street prior to the start of snow plowing so that's nice. There is no garage parking, only street parking and the complex are studios only. The crime is minimal. There are occasional package thieves in the neighborhood and there is no mailbox room for resident's packages. The building is Very old. Every now and then, there are rodents and infestation of bugs but maintenance does their best to control it. There are a lot of nearby shops and restaurants within walking distance. It's a quiet neighborhood and people are kind. Lastly, the price is a bit high for the square footage given there are 1 bedroom options in the neighborhood for around the same price.
I've lived at Ashland Apartments for over 4 years and have had a wonderful experience. The building has stayed true to it's historic roots and is well maintained. The management is kind and reasonable. The neighborhood is the perfect distance from Selby businesses, Grand Ave, and downtown. Highly recommend.
For other studios in this price range, the charm of the building is great - they haven't painted over the original woodwork in the studios and there are hardwood floors, claw foot tub, etc. It's an old building, but it's maintained well, and a good price.
Ashland apartments offers vintage restored studio apartments at an affordable price and is located in the beautiful and welcoming cathedral hill area. The apartment building is regularly cleaned and maintained, the claw foot tubs are a classy touch, the living areas are cozy but comfortable, the kitchens are compact but functional, and in the year I have been at Ashland Apartments, the management has always been super friendly and helpful.
