Beware of Move-Out Delays and Unresolved Refunds — No Response from Greystar

We moved out of this property nearly four weeks ago, and we are still waiting for a resolution on our final account balance. We paid our final rent and utilities, and we are owed a refund of our security deposit (net of any cleaning or damages). Instead, the final move-out statement incorrectly listed utility charges we already paid, claiming that we owe them money. When we raised the issue, the leasing office staff were kind and tried to help, but the problem lies with Greystar’s accounting and corporate support, who have been completely unresponsive for weeks. We were told that the matter was “escalated” and that we would receive an update by the end of the week — but after that promise, we were completely ghosted. To make matters worse, we had to proactively follow up multiple times just to make sure our account wasn’t sent to collections for a charge we do not owe. The leasing team confirmed they asked the collection agency to hold off, which we appreciate — but no resident should ever have to worry about being sent to collections over a company’s internal accounting error. It’s very disappointing that if a resident were late on payment, the property would have no hesitation in applying late fees or sending to collections, yet when the mistake is on their side, they seem to have no urgency or accountability. Future residents should be aware that move-out billing issues can drag on for weeks with no response from Greystar, leaving you in financial limbo. Proceed with caution.

The Ascent team is amazing and they are all always so pleasant and helpful, but the property itself is an overpriced piece of junk. There are no screens in the window. The vents are too small to properly heat/cool a room. The walls separating bedrooms and living rooms are extremely thin and cannot sustain a tv being mounted onto it. The faucet to the kitchen sink does not extend to the middle of the sink so you are always reaching over the sink awkwardly to wash dishes. There is no proper ventilation in the bathrooms so you do not get heat/ac in the bathrooms. The shower water pressure is comical. The living room does not come with an overhead light and neither do the coat cabinets.

I love to complain but after living here for over 2 years, I have absolutely no complaints. Ascent SLU is worth the investment - it quickly pays off because you always have a very safe, clean space. Living at the Ascent has been fantastic. Excellent service from the moment we applied through the moment we moved in (and beyond!) Our apartment is well-designed both aesthetically and technologically: for example, (1) windows extending all the way to the walls for natural sunlight and (2) a programmable Google Nest as the thermostat for the AC and heating. The amenities are awesome, in particular the rooftop and the fitness center.

My first three weeks at Ascent SLU have been a wonderful experience so far - from the apartment being as good as new during move-in, to the building staff being friendly and welcoming. The spacious floor plan of my apartment (1BR Den), modern finishes, wall ethernet outlets, and modern kitchen appliances are some of the great features of living here. I haven't actively used the amenities like the gym or rooftop spa due to covid precautions, but the rooftop and common areas are modern and well-kept. The views from the rooftop are amazing, with a 360 view of Downtown and Lake Union! I've only had a couple negative points to call out so far. One with regards to my move-in reservation for the loading docks being double-booked, leaving me and my moving team to have to quickly adjust plans with the help of the building staff and to use an alternate loading dock. This could've been avoided with better systems for reservations. The other is with the package delivery room - larger packages can often be hard to find as they're left wherever they can fit in the room, leaving me to have to walk around the room and inspect labels to find where my package is. I wish the package lockers were utilized more often than the package room. These are, however, fairly minor blips in an overall experience that has been very good. My girlfriend and I (and our upcoming puppy!) look forward to a long stay here at Ascent SLU!

HOME!

I don’t normally write reviews, but I wanted share my experience for those looking into this property. After spending way too much time looking for an apartment, my partner and I booked a tour at Ascent. After a quick tour, we knew right away that it was THE PLACE FOR US. We ended up signing a lease practically the next day (Thanks to Christine, and Sarah in the Leasing office!).The team here is SO HOSPITABLE and we’ve felt incredibly taken care of since our first day. Eddie the lead concierge is always checking in to see how we’re doing and if there’s anything we need, or just saying “Hi” in passing. He and the rest of the Ascent team make us feel genuinely CARED ABOUT about on a daily basis. The property is BEAUTIFUL and very well maintained. Due to Covid-19 we haven’t met many other residents, but those we have met so far have been pretty friendly! The property uses apps for different things which has been helpful and easy to figure out. When we moved in there were a few minor things that we needed help with like the ice machine, paint touchups, switched outlets, and the NEST thermostat but Mike and Jose with maintenance have been very helpful. It’s been a little over a month since we moved in and we’re so happy to call Ascent HOME!

Lot of issues during Leasing Process

Hi, Having a lot of issues in leasing an apartment. I was charged application fees and security deposit and after getting charged I was told that “we cannot hold the apartment until the move in date” ??? I’m equally shocked and surprised on the way leasing officer makes it sound like that it’s my (customer’s) fault and she has to talk to the management about my issue but no updates from last 48 hours. I’m the one calling again and again and following up on email and calls but getting the same response “need to talk to the management” . Hoping someone from management/leadership team would reach out to me so that I can explain the issue in detail. Will update this review depending upon how the entire leasing process goes even though I’m concerned now that if they behave like this even when we haven’t signed the lease , how will they treat us once we sign the lease. - Arjun Vig

The apartments and amenities are fantastic. We had a very short turn around on our move in dates and everyone we worked with in the leasing office (Shannon & Abbey) answered all of our long list of questions and were a delight to work with. Ed at the front desk went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of during our move in process and made us feel right at home. We love living at the Ascent! Our apartment has a gas range which we love! The space is efficient and feels larger then it is. The amenities such as the gym and hot tub are great to have and best of all the roof top lounge has amazing views.

Nice, modern apartments with a few issues

The Good: Rooftop views are very nice and the grills are convenient. Comfortable seating areas and televisions throughout the rooftop area. Package retrieval system is nice to have. Buzzing people up from the front door is a cool feature. The Rest: This apartment complex charged us $160 for water sewer and say that this amount is totally normal. I lived 3 blocks away a few month ago and never paid more than $30 for these utilities. If you're looking to move here, assume $150 for water and sewer $100 for electricity $275 for parking (for a 1 bedroom unit). Add $50-$80 for internet and your paying well over $600 above rental price just to enjoy basic things like a parking spot and hot water. The walls scuff so easily that if you barely bump into them you'll have a black mark on your beautiful apartment. The paint must be very cheap. There is no thermometer on the ovens. How are you supposed to know when your oven is preheated? My microwave is cheap quality and feels underpowered. No squat/bench rack in the gym. Not a dealbreaker, but disappointing nonetheless. They should move some equipment to the other exercise room to make room for this addition. Conclusion: I'd recommend this place to people who don't have kids or pets that might scuff the walls and for people that can afford to pay a ton of money on utilities and parking each month. For those reasons, I have to give this place a 3/5. Nobody should have to pay over $600 for parking and utilities for a 1br unit.

"This building is AMAZING! We recently moved to Seattle and have felt so welcomed by the staff and residents. Being close to so many bars and restaurants has been a plus, as well as the easy freeway access. Ascent South Lake Union is definitely the best building in Seattle!

Awesome amenities and great management team

We love living at Ascent! Beyond the top notch amenities (huge rooftop, spa, nice gym, concierge, dog grooming spa), our view of the space needle and Queen Anne, is the unmatched customer service. We have been treated so well at every opportunity by every member of the management team. Can't say enough great things about this complex and the team.

I can't say enough about the management team at Ascent SLU. These folks went above and beyond at every opportunity. Eliana helped us and knocked it out of the park. She listened to what was important to us during our visit and actually recommended a unit a few days later that we hadn't considered. The unit checked all of our boxes and we really appreciated her help!!

Living at Ascent SLU has been an absolute dream. The staff is so friendly and responsive and have been so helpful since day one. The amenities are absolutely unbelievable and the building as a whole is brand new, clean and beautiful! I absolutely love living here and cant say enough positive things about my experience!
