About This Property
Conveniently located just steps from local restaurants & nightlife in the heart of the Downtown Torrington Historical District! This beautiful Second Empire style building, formerly known as the Pythian Hall, was designed by local architect C.D. Janssen and built by the Hotchkiss Brothers in 1888; the three-story frame structure was originally named the Odell Block. The mansard roof caps a brick facade added in 1928, but the original facade boasted bow windows, a second-floor balcony, a tower, and a double storefront. The 1920s buff brick facade, with an inset panel bearing the Knights of Pythias insignia, is ornamented with keystones over the windows and has a central arched entry on the first floor.

Surrounded by rolling countryside, the community offers residents a cozy small-town atmosphere, with a timeless New England aesthetic permeating much of the city. The Main Street district north of the Naugatuck River features a thriving shopping, dining, and entertainment scene amid the vintage storefronts, anchored by the landmark Warner Theatre. Start your day with a pastry from First Act Bakery, enjoy dinner at the Venetian, or grab a drink and catch a band at Backstage.
The northern half of town is dominated by large nature preserves like Paugnut State Forest and Sunny Brook State Park, providing terrific opportunities to spend quality time outdoors. The local rental market is mostly made up of single-family homes, with several apartments and condos in the mix as well—rates tend to be rather affordable, with great options available to fit your unique budget and lifestyle.
