About This Property
Enjoy a connection to the natural environment. If you enjoy a quaint historic spot at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, this could be a great neighborhood for you. This is not a typical tourist spot in any way -- yet is embedded with deep history. We are on a quiet working class block on a one way street with an exceptional view from our back yard! If you enjoy a quaint historic spot in a working-class neighborhood directly across from Peebles Island State Park and Lock #2 of the Erie Canal, this could be a great apartment for you! So much to love! We have the best of both worlds -- an urban neighborhood with a back yard sitting on one of the most beautiful natural spots you could find! Look out at a view of the confluence of the mighty Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. We are right across from the Waterford Visitors Center and Peebles Island, just below the 126th St. bridge across the river. (We are between 122nd and 123rd St.) Although once you are inside you feel totally one with nature, we are conveniently 1/2 block away from a strip mall and walking distance from a 24-hour grocery store and drugstore, restaurants and other shops! The light of the sunset is exceptional, and we are in a very historic spot at the confluence of the Hudson and the Mohawk Rivers. Some people swim in the river and eat the fish, but we recommend against it. Swimming in the Hudson is not recommended, however there are many beautiful spots around for swimming. MORE ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD and ITS' HISTORY: In Troy, there's historic architecture, arts and cultural spaces, academic institutions, and places to eat and enjoy life! Our River Home is in Lansingburgh, which is the Northern most part of the City of Troy. We have beautiful views, historic sites, and easy access to basic needs. Just across the river, the Town of Waterford is situated in the southeastern corner of Saratoga County, 12 miles north of Albany at the junction of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, and the junction of the Erie and Champlain Canals. It is the home of the “Waterford Flight," the highest set of lift locks in the world. The Waterford Visitor Center hosts fun events, plus the Waterford Farmers' Market on Sundays! A visit to our River Home is not only offers a beautiful view, but a direct opportunity to learn about the history of the beginning of the Industrial Revolution! We're surrounded by historic places to explore, directly across from Peebles Island and Lock 2 on the Erie Canal! Plus, just a short walk down our street is writer Herman Melville's home, where he began his career as a writer with his first two novels "Typee and Oomoo!" In 1816 the old precinct of "Halve Maan" (Halfmoon) was divided into two separate towns, Halfmoon and Waterford. The Village of Waterford is located within the town and holds the distinction of being the oldest continually incorporated village in the United States. Just a few blocks south, the Herman Melville House was home of author Herman Melville between 1838 and 1847. The building is preserved and maintained by the Lansingburgh Historical Society. The Erie Canal is an artificial waterway that connects the Hudson River to Lake Erie. This historic waterway, first completed in 1825, is one of the most important projects in the development and success of New York and the United States. The canal was enlarged and straightened many times and the current version stretches 338 miles from Waterford on the Hudson River to Lake Erie near Buffalo. To this day the Erie Canal still serves the boating community in providing safe passage to Upstate New York and beyond. The canal was originally built as a means for commercial traffic, but it has transformed into a recreational boater's dream. The Erie Canal is lined with dozens of canal towns offering all the services that a transient boater would need.
