Yes, it's called Capitol Hill -- but it isn't the capitol and there's no capitol building. So how did this Seattle neighborhood get its name? Back around 1900, a real estate developer renamed the burgeoning community from "Broadway Hill" to "Capitol Hill" because he wanted the capitol to be moved from Olympia to Seattle. That never happened, and the quirky neighborhood kept its new quirky name. Capitol Hill is the neighborhood for those who love nightlife. As Seattle's premier place to party, Capitol Hill is home to coffee houses, taverns, bars, nightclubs, and theaters.
Home to artists and musicians, Capitol Hill features a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, and it is home to the Capitol Hill Arts District. College students also find their way to the Hill, which is home to Seattle Central College and is just south of the University of Washington.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at 700 E Mercer
I beg you to consider living elsewhere. 1) Mold issues embedded in the carpet. At one point, the mold was so bad that it spontaneously grew on the walls or any organic item (bamboo bag). Management provided me with a dehumidifier which, when emptied every day, kept the mold in check--but did nothing to fix the existing state of the carpets, which kept me profoundly sick as long as I lived there. The policy of the place was that carpets would not be replaced during a tenant's stay, so in the 7 years I was there (over a 10 year lease, because I joined another lease) the carpets embedded with mold were never replaced. I can't believe I lived in a state of constant illness for 7 years. 2) Management changed the washing machines to an app-based system but failed to check that all cell providers could get service in the laundry room. The manager readily admitted they had not actually tested the system. Though this could have been fixed by putting a router in the room, they refused to shoulder this cost. For the last year I lived here, I could not reliably do laundry. I would have to walk in-and-out-and-in-and-out of the laundry room over 20 minutes trying to catch sweet spot where I could get service close enough to the machines to start my laundry. Many days, I never found that sweet spot and washed my laundry in my bathtub. 3) I cannot even begin to list the number of mail items that were stolen from me personally, and from others. You CANNOT receive packages here. No cameras in the lobby work, no pictures are ever posted of thieves. 4) Multiple break-in attempts. I asked management to put bars on the window. They said they were measuring the windows for this. A year later, nothing had happened. 5) I could not get enough hot water to take more than a 6 minute shower. Imagine how fun this is with roommates. When I brought this up with management...nothing changed. 6) When the fridge broke, they replaced it with a fridge from another unit that was 2/3rd the size of it, unsuitable for a two-bedroom apartment or two people.
Responsive landlord, just about done undergoing serious renovations and upgrades and in a safe location. It's not as nice as the brand new places in Capitol Hill, but it's also a better price.
